Dear Fellow ESLCafeers,

My partner's birthday is this Friday, and I was wondering if any of you have any romantic ideas about what we could do in or around Seoul (i.e. restaurants, musicals, etc.). He is Korean, and we've already done most of the popular musical stuff in Seoul. Any good restaurant, wine bar, or other venue suggestions?

Peace

You could look at some of the threads compiled here.

Her: This was a great idea, hon. Where did you come up with such a romantic idea?
You: Oh, some guys on Dave's ESL Cafe suggested it.
Her: Huh? *dump*

And I mean that from the bottom of my heart, having screwed up one birthday celebration last year. For birthdays, you need to think back to what you've done together on previous special occasions. Barring that, take a trip together.

Man, I found this one little kind of secret restaurant in the Namsan area and asked about it on a few message boards, getting absolutely no response. Made reservations anyway and went in and ate. Was mostly impressed by the place, and the Chica does know about the existence of this board in fantasy internet land.

Her: "I think you really like this place."
Me. "Yeah. It's pretty neato."
Her: "I bet you're going to go on that ESL board and tell everybody."
Me: (having realized that there was a white guy with a K-chick dining behind us) Hush, woman! Lest I beat you down, foo'! (OK, not really.)

Embarassed x a lot

Ritz-Carlton has some 5 star restaurants (have tried a couple of them). Would definitely recommend them if you are in the mood to be BIG MONEY!

Some ideas, based on what I had planned for my recent 4-year anniversary with the Chica:

Find one of those nice, quiet restaurants up along Namsan ring road/Toegyero.
Check out the Picasso exhibit and walk around Deoksugung.
Head up to Namsan tower (if it's clear) and enjoy the night view.
Check out that Samsung thing up by the Hyatt...I think it's called "Louem" or something similar. I heard they have an open concert on Thursday nights.

Just some ideas.
