Good for you......I personally am not to fussed. I'm sure you understood what I was saying. |
If I know Mith, I don't think he was correcting your grammar.
Me, I didn't really fit into a niche. Almost all my friends went to other schools, because they were people I'd gotten close to during youth group at church. My school, especially my grade, was pretty shetty, as far as personalities go. Almost everyone was a prep, and the people that weren't with the "in" crowd (which means the soccer team and the cheerleaders) almost all wanted to be.
The "in" crowd was so admired by everyone, but I couldn't understand it. They were mostly kids that I'd grown up with and watched do things like crap in their pants and wreck their bikes into trees and run home crying. What's admirable about that? I lost contact with them around middle school because either I thought they were nerdy, which they mostly were, or because of their "wordly ways". I was a bible thumper for real. Used to hold big prayer meetings outside before school and give little sermons.
I had a couple friends I'd hang out with during the school day, and they were mostly headbangers or grunge, as that was around mid 90s when Cobain was still being worshipped by all. I caused some ruckus with pranks and things, like putting a container of scrambled eggs in my locker for 7 months and then spreading them around the hallway.
Hmm.. I think mostly, people thought I was weird. (Suprise, surprise, I know.) One thing I always noted during school was that I didn't fit in around there. Most people were just sooooo pretentious, I wanted to barf. Even the teachers and principals. Ugh. I'm glad to be gone.
When I was in high school, people used to tell me to enjoy it because it would be the best days of my life. I remember thinking that if that's true, I should just go ahead and kill myself because life must suck ass. Turns out, college was about a billion times more fun than anything hs had to offer..

the musician, the brain
high school was awesome. for 2 years, 30 of us like-minded kids banded together, taking over an entire wing, outnumbering any other jock group who might have previously been able to kick our asses, going to the park most summer days to play music and games and draw.

I was another one who got along with most of my classmates. My school was small, so it was easy to be involved in a bunch of activities. I played tennis and soccer even though I was no great athlete, I played the bassoon in band, graduated #6 in my class, but was not really a nerd. I guess I was just a kid who tried to get along with others and not to draw too much attention to myself in general.
High school was pretty fun, but I could definitely have skipped middle school happily. |

Didn't anybody cruise chicks? *beep*, I must be old. Either that or you were all big city kids. Go watch American Graffiti and tell us if you can relate to that!
Ya think it matters that you went to school in a country town or in the city? Maybe a thread there? |

CRUISE chicks?
Okay Wooderson.
btw, my goal in high school was to remain a virgin until marriage. Pretty funny, in retrospect, especially since the nice girls from church I tried to meet almost inevitably turned out to be horny as hell. |

I ticked Brain mostly because I was too stupid to read all the way through and see the option for several of the above. Ironic, that.
I finished in the top twenty of a large class, thwarted from doing better only by science classes. Can I help it if the voice of the physics teacher put me to sleep?
But I was also a good athlete, running varsity in track and cross-country and swimming. But people would remember me as a brain.
I'm only in touch with two people from those days, both runners. |

| Was from a very wealthy suburb of Calgary. Everyone pretty much assumed that they were going to University, kind of taken for granted. I was the sports guy. Wasn't that comfortable socially, and went to a new school in Grade 10, so sports saved my ass from being the quiet guy, since the basketball team was really good, and everyone went to the games. Glad those days are oooooover, but wouldn't trade the memories of playoff basketball games, as lame as that may sound. Wasn't into the drugs, they seem to have come onto the scene more in university, but sure I was missing a lot of what was going on, since I never hung with the stoners. |

Drill team pics are nice. Do you have any? |
Only drill teams I ever got to see involved woolen uniforms and Lee Enfield rifles.
But in their own way... |
I was picturing this kind of drill team.

"Deprived" is a word which figures often in my childhood.
Blame the backwoods of New Brunswick. |
