|
|
A friend just called about a really good (it sounds anyway) job opportunity in the Yong-In area...Ji-san, specifically.
Does anyone know anything at all about this area? My friend said it's 'famous for golf'. Does this mean it's rural (yippee!!) or I am reading too much into it?
Any info would be HIGHLY appreciated. |

It's not exactly rural!!!
Yong-in, including Ji-san, is a gigantic collection of high-rise developments .
Pretty new and well kept, but, if I was to bring someone, on their first day in Korea, to see just how dense the housing can be here, then I would choose Yong-in.
Yong-in is of course famous for Everland and Caribbean Bay.
Ji-san is near Bokjeong, the last stop on the Bundang subway line which goes right into Gangnam.
My wife and I actually have Yong-in on our short list for our next apt. You can get a big apt there for not much lolly. |

Not to be pedantic, but can you define 'lolly'? (I am hoping for a number here.)
My friend said this place is 'famous for golf'...so I am hoping for trees, green grass and birds in the trees. Am I being unrealistic?
Would you recommend Bokjeong for living?
(I'm jumping the gun here. I don't have the job yet. Just wondering if the area is livable or someplace that would make me want to get a gun and climb a tower.) |

The area known as Jisan stretches for many miles east into the countryside. In winter I go snowboarding at Jisan resort which is a good 30 minutes+ southeast of Bokjeong. Nice countryside, but I would look into things a bit more before committing to anything. |

I am pretty sure you mean bojeong, not bokjeong. Both are on the same subway line, but bojeong is the last stop. |

Yeah, oops. The last stop on the Bundang line. |

Your post is something akin to saying: Oh, I had dinner with a guy named Jeffrey Dahmer the other night. Interesting fella. You may have other thoughts, though. |

I live in Yong-in, but I'm not familiar with the area you mentioned. It's a nice, large-area city dotted with small mountains and smaller farms. There is an affluent area, which is very nice, but many of the folks here are neither highly educated nor wealthy.
If you liike Korean food, there are many good restaurants at very cheap prices. I still haven't found a western bar and you don't see many waygookins excep at the e-mart.
There isn't a subway line here yet, but it's on the way. The bus takes 40 minutes to get into Seoul. I blieve that there's a ski resort nearby.
It's not crowded, but it is a city. |

Some parts of Yongin are out in the boonies and some parts aren't. Pass if it's Youngtong or close to Suji. Those are the pits in the local area. |

My goodness! I was just trying to save you from ending up in the middle of b*ttf*ck nowhere. Yongin is huge. It stretches way out into the rural province. If that's your ideal place to live, then go for it man!
Jeffery Dahmer...good God..... |

W660,000,000 for an apartment in Dongbaek, Yongin. i think they are all 2 rooms, brand new built near Dongbaek area of Yongin. Can't tell you if that's typical price for the area, I just asked some co-workers one day about the cost of apartments near the school. |

Brit slang for 'money'.
Yata.
I think my wife said you can get 33 pyeong in a high rise in Yong-in for 80-100 million full key money. No monthly rent. When you consider that the new development here in Daechi-dong, Gangnam, costs 1000-2000 million for 33-50 pyeong apts.... ...you can see that's not a lot of lolly. |

It's short for lollipops. Or Lolitas.
You see, in some countries they pay for things with either lollipops or little girls. If you play things right, you can make a lot of money on the international scene (yes, you too can be a 'scenester'!)
Am I bored at work? Oh hells yeah..
So I would really think hard about taking a job outside of Seoul, personally. I've been considering some options, but I worry about getting restless.
I was stuck in small town Canadia for about 6 months and started to go a bit bonkers. And not in the funny way. Got kinda depressed and reallly lazyish, loss of energy. Not that I didn't like living there. Actually I really liked it a lot. Just got a weird feeling inside. I guess I'm too used to living in a place like Seoul. Wish I could go back to small town life, but I guess I need the loopyness of here.
(By the way, lolly is brit slang for money....) |

Thanks for the info, guys.
(I'm presently in a burg of 7,000 people. I don't mind the size. I prefer that to endless miles of high rises. On the other hand, I prefer being employed to being unemployed. I'm funny that way.) |
