I have to do some very painful interviews next week. I have to interview from 8:30am- 6:20 pm, about a hundred candidates each day. Also, the interviews are a formality- it doesn't really matter if they pass or fail. Anyway, what do you do to get through interviews? I don't know my co-interviewer. Hopefully she will be fun, but she could also be a stick in the mud. My male co-workers like to rate the girls based on their looks. Maybe I should do that to amuse myself . |

That's nuts! Why in the world would they do so many interviews??! When I was doing the hiring at my last uni, I rarely had more than 10 applicants that made it as far as an interview. I never had more than 4 interviews in a day.
My guess is every warm body that applied got an interview. What do they care, the waygooks are doing all the work!

Interviews for what, placement testing?
More information is needed if you want any advice. But your post is sounding very unprofessional. |

Ok Peri...lets see
8:30am- 6:20 pm = almost 10 hours.
Taking out a 30 minute lunch we are talking 9.5 hours
Now 100 interviews (wtf???) means each interview (if you go non-stop that is wil last 5.7 minutes.
What are you interviewing for? A speed reader contest?
As for the rest of your post...don't you think you are coming off a tad like some amateur by quoting some idiot who ranks candidates by looks?
Anyway, curious here how do you guys plan to ram through these 5.7 minutes interviews? The sheer logistics of it all sound quite interesting. Do tell. |

Well, you need to do something to stay awake- hence, the ratings^^
As for the interviews, they will get maybe 1 or 2 questions, and I shoot for questions they probably haven't prepared for (everyone always tries to memorize their answer for, "Why do you want this job?" or a self-introduction, or a description of their job experience (if any)). One girl tricked me once- I gave her an A for a self- introduction (which turned out to be memorized). The HR people were surprised, because her Toeic score was barely high enough to qualify for an interview (550). So the HR VP asked her a question in English, and she couldn't answer. I felt like a tool because I fell for it. Anyway, again, it's just a formality. I've given a C (the lowest grade), and if HR really likes the girl, they send her back for a second interview, where she gets asked a super basic question. I've had new-hires in my classes that I distinctly remember failing, as well, so obviously the English interview is a joke. Oh, well- that's what I get paid for. If I owned the company, it'd be a different story, but I don't own the company...
If the interviews counted for more, I'd have a different attitude towards the interviews. Don't get me wrong- I'm professional, but I know a lot of uni teachers also have to conduct final/ mid-term exam interviews, so I'm curious as to any tricks others use (to stay focused). When I did uni interviews, I used to just joke around with the other teacher (we had 2 teachers evaluating the students), and that made the time go by quicker. Also, the grades counted for something at the univ... |
