Hiya

I am in Thailand negotiating a 6 month contract with a school in Seoul via email. I would be replacing a teacher who could not complete his contract. I have read that it is common to have the school pay for a visa run. However, because it is a 6 month contract (this is my preference), I am thinking about splitting the cost of a visa run with the school.

I have tried the search function with limited success. Can you tell me what the total cost of a visa run would be (travel, visa fees, hotels, etc.)?

Take care

$600 for airfare
$100 for hotel
$18-30 for trains
$20 for meals
$60 for visa
$5 for visa photos

Pretty much covers the REAL espenses for an Osaka visa run. About USD$800 all up.

Behave like a backpacker / student, sleep in a capsule room, don't eat and you can shave about $50 off the overnight expenses.

If you are lucky you may be able to save a bit on your airfare too, but don't count on it during the summer vacation.

$600 for airfare

I think this is a bit too much, even in summer season...

I have done at least 10 trips between Korea and japan by plane and never paid this, I think $450 maximum would be more realistic.....

If you live in busan you would take the ferry to fukouka, this would cost $200 return and is cheaper than the plane...

I have done the visa run 3 times, here is what i would take(and i am not stingy)
Airfare: $450
Hotel: $80
Trans: $30
Meals:$40(it is for 2 days)
Visa costs: $65
Others: $100(always see something and you just never know what may occur plus i want to buy plus duty free alcohol)

So all up about $750(ttompatz was pretty right)

Howover if you get a job in busan(or the south) knock about 200 off that

if you take the ferry to fukuoka, you can get a package from kangsan travel for around $250 US that includes a night in a hotel. (that price was from a few years ago, so it might be different now.)
$30 for travel?! if you take the bus from the ferry terminal to the embassy it costs about $3, back to Tenjin for your hotel is another $3, picking up the visa the next day is $3 plus another $3 to get back to the ferry terminal bringing your total to about $12.
$40 for meals?? where are you eating at?? eat at cheap rice bowl places, breakfast is included in your hotel costs, ramen only costs $5. i estimate $25 for meals.
visa is $65
other stuff and acts of god should be about $100
if you drink, you can do a whole night for about $40 if you go to the right places

my estimate is therefore about $450 - $500, but i travel like a bum...

Thanks for the excellent info. The deal fell through for other reasons, but I think this thread will help me and others in the future.

Take care
