Hello Gentlepeople.
Yes, in the spring I posted questions (different questions) regarding renewing my passport. I FINALLY have a day off to do it.

I'm stuck, but I hope someone can point me in the right direction...
I have downloaded the passport application form PPT 040, but I cannot find the form PPT 132. I have searched the Can Emb site but either it's not there, or .....I dont' know. Does anybody know if this is a form I can download, or is it only available at the embassy? If it is available for download, can someone post a link?

A question about "documents to support identity". This is section 5 of the instruction section. It says, "Supplementary documentation must be issued by a federal, provincial, or municipal authority in Canada, or local equivalent, and ...."
"Or local equivalen"t... does this mean I can use my ARC, or an Anerican drivers license? I haven't lived in canada in almost twenty years, so I dont have any of the Canadian documents they suggest. Does anybody have any empirical advice? (opinion won't help as I have one shot at getting this right.)

Another question...Does anybody know where to stay that's reasonable near the Can Emb in Seoul? (say, less than 40,000?)

Is the second form the "Declaration in Lieu of Guarantor" form? If so, then it's not online... I had to go to the Passport Canada office myself to get it.
Can you call the embassy and ask them what the deal is. Thy may be able to help you with alternative documentation.

You need to have names and contact details for four references that have known you for 2 years to vouch for you.

You also need to provide your adresses and employers + contact details for the last 5 years.

Two forms of ID are needed. I used my ARC card and NZ passport.

I have another question though....
I have been trying to sum the number of references needed to renew using the form PPT132. (in lieu of guarantor)
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the actual appliction to renew requires 2 references, and then from what I can gather, ANOTHER 2 references for the form PPT132?
Can any Canadian who has done this tell me how it worked for them?Thank you.

I just went through this myself last month. First, don't worry, it's all pretty painless (at least it was for me).

Yep, 4 references total.

Using your ARC card is fine. I also had to get a copy of my birth certificate from back home, which was a bit of a pain but relatively easily accomplished online.

Something i just found out today: once you get the new one, you have 14 days to report it to Korean immigration to get the new visa stamps (assuming the Canadian embassy keeps your old passport).

Can you tell me if your references were spread around the world a bit?
Ahh, I havent lived in Canada since 1989, so I would have from the US, and perhaps another from the Philippines. On the webiste they say they WILL call these people. I don't know if that's for real or not, but I wouldn't want my application delayed for that reason.
Can you also tell me what the turnaround time on your new passport was? Do you have your new one yet? I know the website says it should take about three weeks if you have a guarantor, and perhpas longer if you don't..... I'm a little worried as I only have about 6 weeks before the expiration of my ARC, and a little more than 7 till the exiration of my passport...

I think the only reason I'm worreid is because this if the first time I have not had a guarantor....

All 4 of mine were in Korea. 3 Canadian citizens who'd been here several years, one Korean.

New passport arrived at my door by mail (I'm not in Seoul) EXACTLY 3 weeks after i'd applied at the embassy.

Oh yeah, there are lots of little flea-bag motels near the embassy (the small streets near the Outback Steakhouse) for 30 grand. Not the Ritz, but...

hmm, sucks to be me. I've only been in country 1.5 years, or I could use some Koreans. Come to think of it, if I'd been here two years, I could just use the guarantor. aggghhhhhhh!!! Laughing

my life is pretty good when these are my biggest worries.....
