It all depends on the person. I love teaching kindergarten, it's a lot of fun most of the time, every so often though you have a bad class where the kids do not want to sit down, won't listen and generally drive you crazy, whereas other classes are great - very respinsive and actually seem to be learning a lot. I much prefer them to the older kids though. It can help to have a K teacher in the classroom, especially when trying to keep control though stickers when good, name on the board when bad are great for keeping the kids in line

Taught kindy every day except weekends and my vacation my first year here. NEVER AGAIN. However, I think you have a much more suitable apptitude and appreciation to dive into pure hell. Have fun.

It's more like babysitting than actual teaching. If you are a REALLY good English teacher, then share your talents with older kids.

Hi,
I work teach 9 4-year-olds for three hours a day. I started teaching them in March. It was the first time that they have even been away from their Moms, so at first both the kids and I were quite stressed. They couldn't speak a word of English. I think the best advice I can give you is this: You will not be a miracle worker here. However, with that said, my students mean the world to me and can actually communicate to me in sentences now! I am so proud of them. If you are dedicated and patient, you will see your students improve almost on a daily basis. It's a very rewarding feeling. Plus the little hugs you get from them are worth a million WON!
The other advice I would like to offer: get a lot of sleep! HAHA!!! I go to bed earlier now than I ever have! Those little guys take a lot of energy!
I hope you enjoy your experience.
Best wishes! |

Have a look at my site for my account of 3 years in kindergarTen. Overall, kindy is physically very demanding, somewhat dulls your adult communication skills, but they will be the funniest clients you've ever worked with. Even Korean kindies can be very funny before many are irreparably reshaped by all the institutional upbringing they get...
