Desktop (Mid-size Tower) PC -

* Price = Make an offer or PM me for more info *

This machine is designed to be overclocked if you're into such things... I'm selling simply because I bought a shiny new workstation.

* 2.26Ghz P4 CPU
* 1 GB of RAM (Corsair and Mushkin modules)
* 80 GB Hard Drive (Western Digital 7200RPM)
* Gainward "Golden Sample" nVidia Ti4200 SVGA Graphics Card, 128MB RAM, VIVO model (Video In, Video Out). Designed to be overclocked.
* CD-RW and DVD Combo drive (Good for watching DVD movies)
* MSI motherboard, on-board sound card
* USB + 3 FireWire IEEE1394 ports (FireWire ports are useful for connecting camcorders, USB for cameras, etc.,)
* Keyboard, mouse, and admittedly cheap 2.1 speakers I bought (paid 10,000 won)

All software installed is legal:

* Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Edition (Beta 2)
* Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 (Beta 2)
* Microsoft Office OneNote 2007 (Beta 2)
* Windows Media Player 11, Internet Explorer 7, etc.,

* avast! Home Edition - Anti-virus software
* Windows Defender - Anti-spyware software
* VideoLAN - For watching any kind of video on your computer, including DVDs.
* Bittorrent - for downloading files fast

All software was recently and cleanly installed. If you'd prefer, I can add OpenOffice 2.0.2 which is a free, legal, stable, and good office suite of software that's compatible with MS Office. I use it myself on my other computer. The Office beta software will expire in February 2007, so if you're not comfortable with installing software yourself, I'd recommend having me install OpenOffice now. Your choice either way.

No monitor is included, but I can advise you where to get a good used monitor at Yongsan Electronics market in Seoul. It will run you 30,000 - 55,000 won for a decent 19" CRT. That's where I bought mine and I've been satisfied.)

Option: If you'd like an extra 80 GB hard drive, I'll install a second hard drive (Western Digital w/ 8MB cache) for 40,000W. No fuss, no muss.

I found out i could build the system for 300,000

btw... a WD 80 gig w/ 8 meg cache costs 46,000 these days

<Due to negative and false comments attributed to my intent, I've deleted some additional facts and info about the RAM and graphics card included in the computer.

If you're interested in any specs on the computer, feel free to PM me and I'm happy to respond. >

The price is too high.

For 300,000 one can pick up a better machine in the used papers. The RAM may be good, but that doesn't do anything for the rest of the system. The graphics card is old, and even overclocked to the sky, it won't help. It's not even a DX9 card. The HDD is small by todays standards, almost every mainboard comes with sound, USB and a firewire port, and combo drives are really, really cheap these days. It writes CDs, but not DVDs, yes?

The 2.26 P4 only has the old 533MHz bus!

Not trying to pop your balloon, but a more realistic price will sell this for you faster.

Do to a sale that fell through, this computer is still on the market.

I've compared prices to other computers for sale on Dave's and in other local Seoul advertising. Make an offer or PM me for more info.

the software with this computer isn't adding any value since it is all beta and free anyhow.

Without a monitor, I'd consider this computer worth around 150,000. Stop trying to rip people off.

I edited my previous posts, removing asking prices and just offering you the chance to "Make an offer". I should have followed others' examples on Dave's and done that from the start. It seems to be a favorite hobby of some folks to search the boards, skim posts, and talk about a supposed "rip-off" in progress. Frequently, numbers and accusations are tossed about with little regard for facts or apples-to-apples comparisons.

I'm not trying to rip anyone off. Period. I've mentioned from the start I'll take the best offer. That hasn't changed.

For those who are curious, before offering the computer for sale I looked at what it would take to buy individual parts and build the machine yourself. Listed below are the results. Granted, these are quick ranges of prices based on US purchases of the exact components being sold. My experience is that prices for these things are slightly more in Korea, but your mileage may vary. I checked eBay and newegg.com for USA prices. (If you want, you can use a site like danawa.com to check prices in Korea. If you do, you may wind up paying more than I listed below.) Sure, sure, there are plenty of other places to buy stuff and get quotes - but you have to start somewhere. Again, I'm not trying to be dishonest about anything here. Just trying to help interested buyers.

Prices listed in US$
---------------------------
CPU = 40-60
Motherboard= 20-25
RAM = 55-80
Hard Drive= 40-45
DVD/CD-RW= 20-35
Video card = 25-35
Firewire card= 5-5
Case/Power= 30-40
Mouse+Keyboard+Cheap Speakers = 5-10

Total price of individual parts is about $235-$335. Yongsan market guys in Seoul usually charge about $20-$35 for setup. So, if you want to spend the time shopping around for parts and pay someone to build a machine, you're looking at $255-$370 US for the built machine, sans software. If you can find a better deal from someone else, I'd encourage you to take it.

I do want the buyer to be happy. I'm an honest guy. I'm happy to give a demo of the machine if you'd like and happy to help you set it up and make sure it works at your place. You can pay after you've seen it up and running.

I am wondering if any of you posters walk around at the recycle stores and laugh out loud at the used couches, chairs, and desks that cost about 10,000 won less than the new ones from E-Mart?

Do you have the guts to point this out to the ajosshi and ajumma working at these stores, or do you only do that to other posters on here?

A certain discount might be allowed because some of the parts are used. That's fair. (I should mention the DVD-CD/RW drive, for example, is new and just tested a few times.) The prices I quoted were for both new and used merchandise - new from newegg.com and used from eBay.com. In my quotes, I usually took the cheaper of the two prices generally available. In some cases, therefore, a "used" discount is already reflected in the component comparison prices. If you had done your own research, it's possible you might have realized that.

There is no special discount for being "out of date" as you say - or being older than the latest, fastest component on the market. That discount is already reflected in the price, just as it is for newegg.com, eBay, Danawa.com, and most retailers/sellers of unused components that are not the latest/greatest.

Put another way, those prices are not what I paid, of course - they are approximately what anyone would pay if they bought the things now, reflecting current market conditions. What I paid, though much more, is not relevant. What one would pay now is relevant and that's why I listed the prices for comparison.

One thing to charge in a used prices from a store but selling without the middle man is a different story. You're selling directly to another person that wants it. the reason for most stores sell more than the usual 50% off the original price is cuz they're in business to make some profit. not just to get rid of the stuff and get some money back in the process

don't forget overhead, which a private seller doesn't have.

I've used knowledge of the new prices (and a printed supermarket thingy) to get discounts from stores before. Point out that you can get a new one at a price not much higher than their price for a second-hand one, and you can get a discount, as long as you do it in a disappointed way, not a confrontational one. Be disappointed that it's so expensive, and bring out the new price as if you would have preferred to buy second-hand at a realistic price, but since the price difference is so small you will get the new one instead. Most will drop their prices significantly - you pointed out that the price is too high in a way that doesn't make them lose face and get confrontational about it.
