Stevensi Goering, Commander in Chief of Luftwaffe
Commander Stevensi Goering of the German Luftwaffe has succeeded in polluting the minds of several ESL members with brainwashing propaganda and psychotic peer pressure. Stevensi Goering has started the downfall of this illustrious website as we know it!

Two of the biggest ways to lose an argument are:
1. Begin swearing - it means you hve lost the ability to reason effectively
2. Begin denouncing the character of the person you are arguing with instead of logically meeting their claims with better and clearer logic, or letting their own stupidity speak for their logic.
You could be right to 5 decimal points and if you begin either of those tactics, it begins to make you look small and petty.
Please Alabamaman...you don't need to resort to that...your logic, level-headedness, understanding of the issue, and persuasive nature are more than what you need to show you are right.

If you're willing to live with the consequences of your actions, then all the power to you on your stand. But, you need to remember where you are. This is Korea and even though on the outside all looks pretty normal, it is not.
Laws written for the betterment of society seem to carry much less weight here than back home, wherever that may be. Maybe due to years of police/government abuse and injustice, the people of Korea seem to have taken it upon themselves to decide which laws apply to them and which do not. This can be seen in all areas of society from simple traffic laws to paying taxes and contractual agreements.
So, although you are doing the right thing, by law, you must be prepared for the outcome. No matter who on this board congratulates you on your stand, who will be there for you in the end. You still need to work there and deal with the sh1te that may be coming your way. Good luck. |

| If a hogwan director ordered me to work illegally I'd probably resist... But if he requested me to do so for a few days - and there appeared to be mimimal risk of getting caught - I'd consider doing it if I thought that a significant number of paying customers would be lost otherwise...I personally would prefer to be thought of as a team player - unless I really disliked the whole operation... |

You still should be consistent with your decisions even if you disliked the operation.

Not necessarily....at times swearing can effectively communicate your total disdain or frustration in dealing with a dumbass. When you are dealing with people who are totally blind and keep insisting total drivel is true because that is what they believe....a profanity can make your point more effectively than logic or reasoning! |

While you are right when arguing, we (being EVERYONE on this thread) have already pointed out why Stevensi is very, very wrong. And many of us have done this 2 or more times. The argument concluded back when Stevensi kept saying the same thing and refused to look at the fact that it is illegal. You can only argue for so long. I am sure alabamaman, like myself, considered the argument closed a bit ago.
After the argument is closed, let the heckling (sp?) begin. I try to refrain from doing this, but in this case, I don't think alabamaman did anything wrong, as the actual debate had closed with an impasse of EVERYONE saying Stevensi was wrong and Stevensi continuing continuously with faulty arguments that had been proven wrong, MANY TIMES!!!

He knew of the gentelman who worked at my place of employment previous to me. He either has hard feelings towards me, is in fact this guy who left before I arrived, was his friend, or was good old buddies Until he comes clean, we will never get to the bottom of his blatent disregard for my choice.

Alabamaman, from his modest beginnings as a Grotto clone, given a couple compliments (deserved or not), seems to now think all his pronouncements are worthy of bolded italic font.
Give it a break, man. |

I evaluate contracts with limited experience that I have, but will have alot more insight within the months ahead of me. Grotto is someone I learned from, as well as the folks over at www.efl-law.org. I will continue to provide a service to forum members, and hope more forum members choose to do the same.

you're the first person i've ever heard of doing that. most people either get their visas processed in their home countries or come over here and work while they're waiting for it to happen. you're not going to get deported.
there are plenty of things you may need to take a stand about, but this is kind of stupid. |
See, the funny thing is, when expats ARE busted for teaching illegally, there is a faction of smug veterans here who gloat in righteous satisfaction. I trust that you will never join that mob. Will you? |

It's a good question, and I will do everything in my power to make that exact same decision. Hopefully that answers your question.
