ok i'm in the process of researching the cheapest and convient way to make phone calls locally and overseas while in Korea. I've been debating signing up for Voip Stunt. It has a feature called direct call back which dials your phone then connects you to the number you want to dial.
I was wondering if anyone out there uses this system or knows of a better one to sign up for. And if you do use this service, does the direct call back take up the won on your cell phone, or is it considered an incoming call?
And say if someone in Canada wanted to call my cell phone, could they go online and put my cell phone number in as the callback number and then call their landline number, avoiding the mobile phone charge?
ok did that confuse you?? because I think i just confused myself...lol
Any info would be muchly appreciated...... |

| One word Skype... 2.1 cents a minute to Canada you just can't go wrong. You get skype out time and your golden, you can also get skype in which will is still limited but it will give you US phone number and people back home can use that to call you. |

| but isn't it free to call Canada from Korea with VoipStunt? so how would Skype be better? |

| Are you seriously unable to afford 2.1 cents per minute? Exactly how much calling home are you planning on doing, anyway? |

Korea is working to block, or has already blocked, VOIP using telephones. You can still use Skype, at the moment. The military here has been arguing with the Korean gov't over this issue recently. There was another post about it.
Be careful about paying much up-front for a VOIP system, because it may be rendered useless in the very near future.

| It's not about not being able to afford it. Why go through the hassel of paying when I could get it for free. I was willing to pay the 2.1cent/min fee to use a service that would give me a Voip In Number but I don't think I can get a Voip-In Number for Canada, from what I read on their website. So VoipStunt looks a little better at this point.....anyone use this service? |

Yes. It works well, most of the time. And "free" actually means 10 euros every 120 days, with 300 minutes a week being "free" and anything over that deducted from the 10 Euros at 1 cent a minute. You can carry over the balance if you renew before the 120 days are up, but if you're like me and never come close to 300 minutes a week, the money's irrelevant. Just look at it as 10 euro for 4 months.
I'm not in Korea so can't speak to whether the protocol has been blocked by Korean ISPs, but I can tell you at the end of the month when we visit. I seriously doubt it has, and even if it has it shouldn't be too difficult to route around. |
