Gov't Unveils Rules to Fight Cyber Lynch Mobs
In a bid to prevent escalating online slander and privacy violations under cover of anonymity, the government and ruling Uri Party on Friday decided to require Internet users to use their real names when they post comments on some portals or media websites.

I, for one, would like to see that done on these forums (I'd be taking names of cyber-bullies/cowards who keep attacking me ... ) |

One of my main problems with the Korean Internet already was the lack of anonymity. With a bit of detective work, you can find a person's real name, address, university schedule, ID number, Cyworld page, etc.
It's the easy access to this information that leads to people being victimised, not that prevents people from forming online lynch mobs. |

I used to post with my real name on this board long ago. I was harrassed by local psycho-teachers (or "missed abortions" as I like to refer to them) and my wife was deeply insulted. She doesn't even post here. Clearly whoever it was knew me but hid like a spineless coward behind anonymity.
I doubt it would make much difference at all if they were required to use their real names. The harrassment in anonymity would just move to a different site. |

Not to mention it would still be easy to steal someone's identity so you can post anonymously anyway. |

My first thought was about "netcitizens" that post long (often nasty) things about ESL teachers. It would be nice if threats would be taken seriously, but it's doubtful. |

Funny how such laws always tend to aid the bad guys more than anyone. |

So now that the cyber-terrorists have turned against this administration, Noh wants to do something about them. A few years back when they supported them, he loved it! |

Well maybe we wouldn't pick on you if you didn't butt into our conversations with your saved pictures of girls in bikinis.
