|
|
Hi, my wife and I have an 8 hour wait overnight in Bangkok in a couple of weeks on our way back to Korea. We arrive at 11pm and leave for Seoul at 7am.
I guess we could just rent a day room at the airport and have a rest, but it seems a shame to be in a country for the first time and not take the opportunity to visit it.
Can anyone suggest some (wholesome) activities in Bangkok after midnight? Thanks. |

Not much is open after midnight in Bangkok. You might be able to do some shopping in Silom or Khao San but not sure how late they stay open. Could you not delay the Korea flight one day? Then you could do some sightseeing in the day.
There really aren't too many wholesome things to do after midnight. It would take you a while to get anywhere in a taxi, too. Best bet would be to stay at the airport...boring I know.

Khao San road has a curfew, so it won't be open after 11 pm. |

OK, thanks guys.
I heard there's a shuttle or subway from the airport, is that right?

The curfew is in effect? Only BKK? or throughout Thailand? |

Most places pretty much close at 1 or 2AM. Some discos and Thai bars are open later. Places like Khao San have gotten pretty lame, with even 7-11 stopping liquor sales after 11 or 12.
It's all part of the Thai government's "social order" campaign...a crock, really. |

Since about 2002 - 2003.
Before that, 7-11 would sell beer 24 hours a day and bars would go all night long. |

all night in Bangkok with your wife
hmmm....
if you need to ask what to do, you've been married too long!
abstain for a week before if you have to, but come on, you have the whole night to wine or at least dine and be romantic in a beautiful, exotic city
you two can't be too old for that
make it a special anniversary of some small moment from your past, surprise her by stepping outside of your confort zone a little, perhaps get tipsy first if that's your thing, and/or find a local sight that's spectacular, etc
one can be WHOLESOME and adventurous with the woman one loves
anticipation helps, so write her an expressive love letter beforehand
your heart's not too old for that
i cannot imagine a more wholesome thing for a married couple to do on a night in Bangkok; make it a night to remember |

Many of the shows in Patpong are actually aimed at couples too... Don't know how the OP's missis would feel about seeing some shooting ping-pong balls but its certainly an idea!
With regards to a curfew, I was in Banglamphu last November and didn't notice anything. I managed to drink until the sun came up at many of the street bars/plastic stool and table places around Rambuttri (behind Kho San area). I don't really like Kho San road anyway, too many idiots IMO.... |

11? No way. I'm in Bangkok now and was drinking last night until 2. I know there is a 2am one in effect most parts of Bangkok. It is easy enough however to find afterhours bars. Likewise as far as the 7/11s / Family Marts - many have signs saying they won't sell alcohol for a few hours in the afternoon and some say also not extremely late night but it seems to be consistently ignored.
The concept of an 11pm curfew in a place like Bangkok is almost laughable. |
