HIYA!

Any Zenners / Zennists / Zen Buddhists or other who associate or not something that you might call Zen?

I'm looking for work and it'd be great if I could find a job at a place near a Zen temple where there's an actual practice. I'm not interested in tourist-oriented temples.

I'm really only considering work in the south because I am completely useless in cold weather. So, if anyone knows of something in the southern parts, please, let me know. I've done a search on this site for Zen but haven't come up with anything like Zen. Only citizen and, actually, nothing else. Actually, that's just what I want / don't want! Nothing.

Thanks, Troy.

You're probably not going to find much in this country. Good luck though.

That's much more of a Japanese sect of Buddhism. In Korea you will find much more of the traditional Buddhism...

Actually Seon is closer to the traditional Ch'an than Zen. And it's everywhere.

HIYA!

Satori, aside from admiring your name (!), I'm curious what you mean by "traditional Buddhism". Theravada Buddhism, as I'll bet you know, is generally considered by scholars to be closer to what the Buddha probably taught. I'm sure there's very little Theravada to be found here in Korea.

I lived in Thailand for about seven years. Just before coming here. I lived at two temples for two years each in a group called Santi Asoke. Really wonderful group of people doing some awesome things. And, like probably nearly every other group of religious people on the planet, Asoke members will generally say that Asoke style Buddhism is consistent with the actual teachings of the Buddha. I don't have any comment on that, but I am glad to have found the group and lived with them. And to still practice pretty much Asoke style.

But I'm so interested in Zen .... This is one reason I left Thailand. I could go to Japan but since there are so many more places to practice Zen than Soen in the USA, that I want to get some exposure to Soen before going back to the USA. If I like it, I may find a Soen temple or something in the US. If I don't like it, I can just go find a Zen temple in the US.

I plan on returning to the US late next year and intend to live either at a Buddhist temple or an "intentional community" that has a strong spiritual practice.

Troy.

There's lots of Zen here. There's a zen place about five minutes from where I live here in Gangnam. Here are five other locations:

Op, one's in Busan, one's in Gwangju, so maybe check out those ones.
