| I worked in a few kitchens in DC during university. Hollering "immigration" was good for a kick. |

| I think they must have something to hide if they are so defensive about it. I think its great to get to know your work mates as it creates a better working environment for you. Maybe they are just snobs? |

Why do you keep on asking the same question? If they didn't want to tell you the first time then why would they tell you the second time or the third time or ..........
Some people don't like to talk about Uni, maybe they don't want to bore you with tales of parties you weren't at and people you never knew or courses you never took. They could be the type of people who hate listening to others exciting/excruciating stories about their college days and want to spare you the boredom of hearing their own stories.
Let it go. Stop asking. |

True, but we all know that there are some freaky waygooks out there in K-land, seems you just got landed with a few. It is rather odd that they don't give you any answer, but I reckon you should just forget about it, it's not worth it, they are probably not worth the effort either. |

| I agree that it's a reasonable question to ask, but on the other hand, when you don't get a response, I dont think you should just keep asking. My own feelings? If you ask me something three times, I won't answer you simply because you asked me three times. The teachers reasons for not answering are their own. Whether they have degrees or not. Thats their business. They chose not to answer you. I would find something else to talk about....uhh, Go Oilers? |

Yes:
1. from teachers at ESL schools in Canada in Halifax, Toronto and Vancouver who have Korean and Japanese post-adolescent students (along with other students) in the same classrooms. They report that it never fails that a Korean male will go all Yi Sun Shin on the unsuspecting Japanese students at some point in the term. These Koreans come off as nutjobs.
2. In the foreign SE-Asian community where I live, similar Korean-at-Japanese interactions commonly occur.
For me, this is a trend.

Super.
Once again - ask your American friends - or ask around this board - and you'll have no shortage of Americans who have had run-ins with Canadian bulletheads who have treated the American in the bar like he was George Bush's personal representative. Can Americans be boors? Of course. Can Canadians? Yes, WAY more often than Canadians wish to admit when they're on their "the whole world loves us!!!" twist. And this boorishness too often manifests itself as anti-Americanism. |
Have you encountered the book, "Why I Hate Canada"? It is a scathing critique of Canada and Canadians.
A former E.F.L. instructor in Japan, Ferguson penned it while living and working in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, where he relocated after his stint in Japan.
By the way, an "Oilander" saw me reading Ferguson's book in the Killam Library at Dullhousie University. He knew I was an outspoken critic of Dullhousie's incredibly crooked Student Union, Residence Life Committees, and the Speech Code Enforcement Hit Squad and their anti-Caucasian male and ultra Feminazi allies. This P.E.I.er went up to the coffee bar attendants and railed on about this "fuckin' American" reading an anti-Canadian book. The simpleton, and trust me when I assert that there are lots and lots of simps with violent tendencies in Atlantic Canada, got a few other "students" to come over to me and harass me for reading a book authored by a fairly well known Canadian man. |

Wow, not only did you feel the need to bring up anti-Canadianism again in a thread that has nothing to do with it, you show massive ignorance, prejudice, massive stereotyping and insults. I suggest you find a new hobby (for your own sanity) or atleast go down to the off-topic forum where your kind is appreciated. |

I can wait to hear more story telling from Roch. The MODS should give him an hour everyday to vent this pent up anger in some special forum especially for him.

y'all never cease to amaze me how you can take any thread, any topic, no matter how positive or negative, and turn it into a g a w d a m n e d
p i s s f e s t of canada vs america. honestly, i would pay money to lock you all up in a room with a few hockey sticks and let you settle it once and for all.
maybe there should be a sticky exculsively for people who want to argue the relative merits of their respective cultures. |

There are lots and lots of simps with violent tendencies in your part of Canada. Perhaps your idea of exactly how many people I'm referring to is greater than the approximate number I have in mind. That Atlantic Canada has been a basket case for many generations is well established in Can-Am Studies. Why do you find my portrayal of the M'times, an historically underdeveloped area of Canada that lags behind the rest of the Provinces in nearly every social index, so much more objectionable than when, say, a lefty Professor of Social Work at Dullhousie University's School of Social Work or somebody from the Cody Institute in Antigonads expresses the same ideas? Anyway, Johnny, I responded to another poster. Please do not get mad - okay?
I'd bet you at least a thousand dollars that my knowledge of Canada surpasses your own grasp of the nation.
I do not dislike Maritimers as a group. Really, I just know that the region has been socially dysfunctional and economically dependent on Ottawa for decades and decades and decades. When an enormous area of a country is reknowned for its xenephobia, behind-the-times racist treatment of its African-Canadian, aboriginal, and other minority populations, huge numbers of tax cheats, not infrequent race riots (just look at H'fax as ONE example), and knee-jerk anti-Americanism (I have never heard the crowds in Ch'town, Moncton, and H'fax not resort to booing my country's anthemn whenever it has been played; in fact, although it is another story, this routine has been well established throughout the rest of Canada), a person can not help but conclude that the region is just as I've described it.

NONE of the other native teachers at my school will discuss where they went to college. I've worked with them for months, and whenever I talk about college, each of them gets nervous and clams up. I've often asked them where they went to college, and the it's always the same reply,-"I went to college in Canada." All three of them ALWAYS say exactly the same thing, alone or in a group.
Even in Canada, colleges have names.
They NEVER talk about: college classes, bars/parties,instructors/profs, college friends, or anything else related to college.
The college graduates I know are always talking about these things.
At first, I thought they were all just being rude. Now, does anyone have any idea why they would act this way? |
Man, yall keep getting off-topic. OP, have you the skinny yet? Inquiring minds would like to know... |
