|
The other day I lost my wallet. In it was my ID card, K drivers liscense cash, visa, public school credit card. Bank cards etc. Not a good situation. Does anyone have experience replacing these cards? What's the protocol, for say the Immigration card. I still have my passport, but that's it. How long does it take to get a new one.
I need your help!!! |

try to find the place where you lost it.
Koreans and theft don't go well together.
I am pretty sure if you retrace your steps and ask around you will find your wallet. |

Call your bank and cancel your credit cards. Get a replacement ATM card.
Go to immigration and tell them you lost your card and get a new one. It will cost you man won. Take your passport. They will print a new one while you wait. |

Have you found me to be in error and giving bad advice somewhere? I hope that your comment was meant in a complimentary and not derogatory way.
I don't know everything about everything. Can't tell you much about social life in Seoul for example. Can't tell you where the good clubs are. Can't tell you about the best restaurants.
For what I do write about, I guess the best way to put it is ... been there done that....lol....
Additionally, I worked as an advocate (sort of paralegal type) for foreigners (teachers usually but occasionally migrants as well) battling the system (or within the system) and often as as their agent in hearings with different government agencies like the molab and immigration. I learned a LOT that way.
Also, as a long term foreigner in Korea without the benefit of a foreign companies assistance, Korean girlfriend or wife to help over the hurdles I have had to do learn to do stuff the hard way the first time and remember for the 2nd time...lol...
The school of hard knocks is a good teacher. |

No my comment/question, unlike most comments others and myself make, was sincere. It just seems like everytime I or anyone else has a question you're the first of one of the first to post with accurate and helpful advice. I'm really just impressed that you know so much |

Gee... thanks.
I'm flattered and glad that I can help someone not have to travel the same hard road. |

I left/lost my wallet in a taxi last year. The worst part was that I noticed it just as I got to the elevator in my building, but when I ran outside I could do nothing but watch the taxi disappear into the distance.
Anyway, I canceled all my credit cards, and went to immigration to replace my alien card. since they already have it on the computer, it only takes a second to print out a new one.
About 3 months later, I got a package on my desk at work. The police had retreived my wallet at some point and mailed it to the address on my alien card, which was my school's address. All the credit cards were still there, but obviously they wouldn't work anymore anyway (since I canceled them). The $40 in cash was gone, tho. |

Was it necessary to include a police report? I had heard/read somewhere that it was necessary for you to go to a police station and file a report and bring the report to immigration before they'll issue you a new card. Maybe only a requirement in Boo-sahn? Maybe the person who stated what they stated didn't know what they were talking about? |
