I'm currently vacationing in Donghae, staying at a supposed 1st class hotel. I went to the hotel restaurant, looked at the menu, and lo and behold, there was a "Mexican Salad" advertised for 15,000W. Because this is a relatively good hotel with a really good American-style breakfast, I (naively) assumed the salad would come in a big taco shell with ground beef, salsa, shredded cheese, and a big dollup of sour cream. Rather, I got a salad consisting of lettuce, apple slices, strips of spam, raisins, and small pieces of cheese slices, all covered in a mayonaise type sauce. And voila: the Mexican Salad.

Went to the Pietro outlet in COEX a couple weeks back with friend. He ordered the "grilled chicken salad." What came was a selection of grilled chicken and mushrooms with two pieces of greenery. He said it was all quite delicious, though it certainly made him question his notion of a salad. You've got to be careful when ordering salads in Korea, that's for sure.
On a side note, the wife and I had a great big green salad (with real grilled chicken breast) with dinner tonight. Nothing beats such a thing on a hot summer evening. |

LOL...
Ordered some 'Nachos' at Helios in Itaewon last Friday night... what turned up was a plate of tortilla chips criss crossed with ketchup, mayonnaise and some wholly inappropriate cheese...
Worst of all... the manager flatly refused to give us a refund after we tasted the first one and set about complaining that what we had been sold could not possibly constitute 'Nachos'... wouldn't even let us switch the order for fries, so we ended up sending the food back and paying a further 6,000W for fries.... it was especially ridiculous considering the huge amount we had spent on drinks and the few bottles of champagne we'd purchased to celebrate a friend's birthday
Lesson learnt... NEVER order food at Helios... pizza is equally questionable too, lol.. |

Some people say Sizzler sucks, but at least the one I went to in Cheongdam had a decent salad bar. Even in the states, I've learned to never order a salad. Always go somewhere where you can make your own, unless you like all lettuce or a salad covered in dressing. Even better, make one at home. |

Oh man!!!! That brings back memories!!
My wife and I went to one of those Korean bars that make you order sidedishes, we didn't mind because we were hungry and we'd been there before, the beer was well chilled and didn't give us a hangover. We ordered "Mexican Salad". I expected something with chicken maybe. I'd never had a mexican salad before. You wouldn't beleve what we got!!
It was a big plate of cabbae with seafood, that rubbery ojinga/cuttlefish with a few shrimps, drowned in dressing!!! We asked if we received the wrong order, NO! and they wouldn't take it back. We have obviously never been back there!!
Mexican Salad, my behind!! |

Wow, if you don't like suprises like that, don't go to WABAR and order their "pictcher of Guinness". When it got to the table, we tasted it and found that it was cut with an overly generous quantity of Hite or some other beer-flavored beverage.
Naturally, we stood up on the table and sprayed the entire establishment with urine. |

Mixing 'nachos' and champagne? As Doctor Phil would say, "how'd that work for you?" |

Taco Amigo in Itewon has some pretty good Mexican food. You have to request cilantro and chipotle sauce because Koreans think it's groos so the owner stopped using it so it's only available by request.

haha. Not a Wabar story, but there was a place that offered "dark" beer.
It cost 1000 won more for a pint, and it was a Cass on tap + a spoonful of cocoa powder. |
