There is plenty of job opportunities in Alberta right now. I was looking into relocate there but opted to travel. I don't think I would fit well in that province.

I was looking in my area of study and the human/social services are hiring left right and centre out there. My training background is Family Services. So whenever I've done the job searching in that area loads of opportunities come up. School boards are hiring like crazy too in that area. Behavioural issues in the classroom on the rise.

Goodluck with it. Hope Alberta suits your needs. I decided against it. Seems too cold and dreary for me, not to mention an ex left me for Alberta so I've got negative feelings for the place. Not that it matters, I have a great partner now...but sour feelings don't go away so easily. Hahahaha

If you can't find a job elsewhere, go to Alberta. You'll find work.

BUT......

Read this first. Was in the Calgary Herald today.

I'm from Ontario. The last time I went to Calgary, by chance I saw 4 people I knew, in 4 separate meetings, who had all moved out there for work. It's nuts out there now.

But to be honest I was surprised by the bigotry and small-mindedness of some of the people there, who had no problems with sharing their opinions with me, and acted like of course I would agree.

Call me a latte-sipping pinko but I was glad to get back to downtown Toronto.

And I've been surprised by the white supremacist movement in Ontario. They recently sent recruiters to Edmonton to try and establish a new chapter, and ended up being chased away by the local skinheads.

Oh, and Edmonton smells funny. Razz
(seriously, the downtown there has some type of odd odour)

That's the sickening stench of no people.

By the way, what did I say that was so different from Grotto?

No seriously, the lat time I was in Edmonton (downtown) there was this putrid smell. I asked some people and they said something about the river - anyone confirm?

As for being different from Grotto, I felt that Grotto mentioned that Ed. has a large Asian community (possibly implying that Calgary does not. I meant to point out the contrary.

I've been thinking whether I should buy a house in Calgary now or wait a few more years. I'll most likely be moving back in under 5 and am worried that the climb will not stop.

If you've got the cash I would recommend buying ASAP! The average price of a house in Edmonton or Calgary is 325,000$ and its only going to go up!

Smell in downtown Edmonton Confused Laughing could it be the smell of a winnning sports team? Wink

Downtown Edmonton? its probably the smell of late night inner city people pissing, puking and punting!
