I am not working through a recruiter and am a newbie, so I am unclear what kind of airline ticket I need to purchase -- oneway or roundtrip? How do you know what the return flight date should be?

Do you mean E2?

F2 is for those married to a Korean citizen.

If you have a residence visa (F2 - married to a Korean or E2 - teacher of a foreign language) then you are only required to have a one-way ticket.

If you are coming over as a hakwon teacher, you should INSIST that the school PREPAY your ticket and send it to you.

If you already have the visa in your passport, you only need to get a one-way ticket. If you don't, many travel agencies will insist you need to get a roundtrip. Many people have already posted previously that they have got in without this roundtrip ticket, however.

As the other posters said, you are supposed to have a return ticket, but as long as there is a visa already in your passport, they will let you in.

I entered Korea with a 90 day tourist visa that I had obtained from a Korean consulate. I had only a one-way ticket to ICN. When I arrived, the official who inspected my passport asked me how long I would be staying in Korea. I told him whatever date popped into my head as my departure date, and that was fine.
