Funny you should ask that. I was just looking it up yesterday. It's March 11, 2007. So, you still have a long time to train (7 months) if you decide to do it. Here's the link, but I don't know how much info is there in English.

It's a great marathon. I did it last year.

If you aren't a newbie, you will have to send in a fax to prove your time, or you will be starting at the back of the pack of thousands (it could take 30 min to cross the start line after the gun!!). Last year was super cold and it was heaven for me to start on the front line....glad I sent in "proof" of my running time.

The other big marathon is Chuncheon...(have you seen the Korean movie, Maraton?). It is in Oct. Too late for this year. It is probably the most famous in Korea.

We will have training groups on Sat. and Wed starting in Sept. With seoul synergy. PM if interested. Enjoy your training, mine is on a treadmill these days!

www.runnersworld.com

Tons of training info and a few different options on plans. Pace calculators, articles....a goldmine.

Good luck!

Cheers guys for all that. I actually haven't done a marathon before as I have a rather canny knack of getting injured about two months before the event (usually playing soccer!) I have a couple of half marathons under my belt though.
I just thought it would be cool to do a marathon in one of the most recognised cities in the world rather than a small city.
What I really think would kick ass is if there was a DMZ Marathon. They let everyone go and then get the North Koreans to chase you. I think we would see quite a few people posting quick times!!!

www.realrunner.com

I love this site. Updated frequently with all kinds of things, plus if you register (for free) you can download the training plans for any type of distance you might want.

I wouldn't use runnersworld but hey! whatever gets you across the finish line!

I've given talks/workshops on running for years and the best system out there for beginner or pro is Jeff Galloway. Find them under the training part of his website http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/index.html

YES , there is a DMZ marathon already! It is run as a peace run in Sept. by the KCRC the Korean council for reconcilliation and cooperation. The main civilian group which communicates with the North (because the North won't talk directly to the south because they don't recognize their govt. ). Nice group and I hope their race will be great - i visited their office last month and they seem organized. Unfortunately it only goes along the DMZ despite their efforts to have a there and back run across........

I've done ultras and will do the world 100 k championships in Misari this Oct. Come out and watch 10X10k loops. as the world's best go at it. Hopefully the cooler weather will help. Misari is in the east of Seoul, along the Han, where they held the Olympic rowing/kayaking/canoeing events.

Ultra is big here compared to elsewhere in the world. Visit www.kumf.org Also if anyone wants to try the great Korean shoes I wear, pm me or visit and call BJ at www.ohmyshoe.com BJ is a good friend and most Korean ultra runners wear his shoes 65,000 and great quality/fit. He is in Jamsil but will post/send.

Cheers,

DD

Where's the best places for running kit/shoes in Seoul as I'm coming over from the UK soon. Do they sell New Balance shoes? My favourite running shoes ever!!
