the ice bar. another of korea's "uri too!" concept bars. the owner will tell you it's a full square metre larger than tokyo's. yappity yappity. the ultimate gimmick bar, esp. in this weather. a gimmick with a cover charge. ice seats, ice tables, ice goblets.
the location... ugh, sorry. the hour was way late, i was drunk and very jetlagged, and mostly i just don't do hongdae often enough to know or recall landmarks. If you get there and just ask around for "that relentlessly gimmicky ice bar", I'm sure people will steer you right. |

Okay, I got it.

Never been there before but I suspect the subject will come up again so I wrote a small stub on the place. |

Are you sure about that map? It doesn't appear to be anywhere near Hongdae. In fact I can see the subway station for TechnoMart near the bottom of your map.
Thanks, though. |

Yep - maybe it doesn't work well with your browser but that link shows an arrow right in between Hongik Univ. Station and Sangsu, right in front of the university itself. |

Looks like a map for part of Bundang for me. |

The Naver map is defaulting to show the location of the computer of person viewing it. Which would explain why Zyz is seeing Bundang and I'm seeing the sticks of Gyeongnam province. |

But I'm viewing it from Hongdae. I don't live in Bundang anymore. |

Well, I hope you're all just on crack but here's where it takes me every time except for in Firefox:
That green station down there on the left is Hapjeong. |

Crack? Haven't made a connection since I moved here.
I tested it with both IE and Firefox and got the same result. I even scrolled over to Hongdae and couldn't find the red arrow. Anyways, thanks for posting the screenshot.
Anyone else actually BEEN there? How much was the cover? |

If you go with a tropical island theme (Philippines/Thailand/etc. -- places a lot of expats would rather be than Korean in the winter) do not, do NOT dump sand on the floor thinking that will be real cool and people will love the idea. Oh, they'll love the idea for a minute, but then it all unravels.
Sandy beach floor? Guys dig it, but K-chicks will stand at the door and won't go in. Why? Because that entails taking off their heels and showing everyone how short they are in their bare feet.
sand = no K-chicks
no K-chicks = no dudes
no dudes = no booze sales |
