I think what appeals to me is the summary of who the Brits made a hobby of slaughtering in one part of one century. Of course they gave it up when they no longer had the power to do it. |
And other nations never took it up (slaughtering abroad) because they never possessed the power to do it. They had to settle for slaughtering each other. I couldn't disagree more with the notion that Europeans hold a monopoly on bloodthirstiness.

Lawrence Keeley (professor at the university of Illinois) calculates that 87 per cent of primitive societies were at war more than once per year, and some 65 per cent of them were fighting continuously. "Had the same casualty rate been suffered by the population of the twentieth century," writes Wade, "its war deaths would have totaled two billion people." Two billion! In other words, we're the aberration: after 50,000 years of continuous human slaughter, you, me, Bush, Cheney, Blair, Harper, Rummy, Condi, we're the nancy-boy peacenik crowd. "The common impression that primitive peoples, by comparison, were peaceful and their occasional fighting of no serious consequence is incorrect. Warfare between pre-state societies was incessant, merciless, and conducted with the general purpose, often achieved, of annihilating the opponent."

Hope you don't think I was implying they hold a monopoly. I do think they hold a doctorate, though. |

here we have an example of a self-loathing westerner grasping onto the idea that somehow, in some way, his ancestors were worse than other humans, and he carries a horrible burden of guilt.....
in other words he's an idiot. |

I don't see any self-loathing. Just a recognition of FACT. His phrasing of the matter was right on. Sundubuman, if all you can add to the conversation is melodramatic hate of others (who you don't even know), please keep sitting in your corner (which I think is where you are, seeing as you do only straight ahead like that guy in Plato's cave, the shadow).
My initial comment about Europeans was to focus on the fact that maybe they have learnt something from their past (however temporary that always seems to be , regarding history) and they do not glorify or beat the drum of war so easily, seeing how so many have family that were killed, forever ruined by war.

Help A Boycott Of Israel ... Go To Jail
Each of us has the right to purchase products from whichever business we please.
We also have the right to choose between American and foreign companies.
The spending of money is equivalent to voting. According to the theory of free enterprise, consumers will make intelligent decisions. Supposedly they will support the reputable businesses that make the world a better place, and they will drive the others to bankruptcy.
For example, some consumers avoid purchasing products from companies that use child labor, while other consumers avoid food products from companies that use pesticides.
During the past few decades, some people have decided to avoid Israeli products.
Americans have the right to avoid Israeli products, but the Bureau of Industry and Security of the US Department of Commerce announced in 2002 that they will try to stop boycotts of Israel.
