In terms of a bar or restaurant which would you most welcome as an addition to the Itaewon scene? VOTE!

I know what I would like but I want to see what others think... Please reply if you like more than one of the options I have listed or if I havent listed something you would like to see.

I took the English one because it comes closer to the belgian type of Cafe.

What i truly miss in Korea are cafe's and their terrasses. Where you can just sit, lounge, enjoy a drink and look at people.

Surely, that should be 'English style' pub?

An authentic Denny's and a real English pub are needed in the neighbourhood. They would be the best things to hit I'taewon since the American invasion of Korea.

Gotta be the Englsih pub (not a bar).

The Canuks get the RMT with the peanut shenanigans, the Yanks get, well, all of Itaewon, the Aussies get drunk anywhere they can, so us Poms should get real beer, pub grub, big comfy chairs around thick old 'n' beaten wooden tables, a dartboard, pool table, a buxum barmaid, and random violence come closing time.

I think they should pave the whole Itaewon street over and make it a pedestrian mall. Anyone who's been to Barcelona's Las Ramblas or Shanghai's Nanjiing Street would know what I mean. From the Hamilton all the way down to the entrance. Parking on that street is already futile, and nobody just drives through anyways. They did it to that one street in Hongdae and it improved that area a lot. You'd have all the open air bars you want. As it is now, there's always an underlying "edge" to Itaewon that's borderline seedy. I say pave it in bricks and see what happens.

The 3 Alley is close enough to an English style pub for me.

I'd go for a French restaurant, unless I've missed somewhere I think French food is the only international cusine with a good reputation that is yet to make it to Itaewon.

That's a great idea- cafes and outdoor terraces for sure! I wish they would pedestrianize the place- Daegu's downtown area really needs that too- and some more trees would be nice...

What about a more authentic Mediterranean style restaurant, like a wine bar with tapas-type dishes? Mmm... good cheese, bread, olives, salami and fruit... no processed ingredients and no spaghetti!

True, people drive through there, but hardly enough to be an artery. If you're at Samgakji wanting to get north of Namsan, its normally quicker to go up to Seoul Station and then right down Toegyero or Ulchiro anyways. The road going straight off of Burger King heading down to the river would help bypass the area, as would the Namsan ring road going by the Hyatt, as you said (but who'd want to drive that road to get from A to B?)

A lot depends on Seoul's plans for Yongsan after the hand-over. If they put up apartments, its probably bye bye Itaewon as we know it anyways, and they'll need the thoroughfare. If Yongsan's a park, traffic will decrease in that area, and making Itaewon a pedestrian mall might be a beautification project Seoul could support.

A better Mexican restaurant (or two) would be nice, and I was tempted by the lounge with mixed drinks and the terrace, but I had to go with the all-night diner. Sometimes a girl just needs a nice greasy breakfast, or as some Brits call it, "a dirty fry-up." Now doesn't that sound like fun?

A Beaver's Wings Bar and Grill (with some financial backing) would kick ass in Itaewon because we had the best wings (all eleven flavors), our tacos and nachos were way better than that crap Pancho's puts out, and our fish and chips weren't even on the menu but ordered every Friday night by our British customers.

But there's no way in hell I'll ever own another bar.
