My work just told me I only have a month to collect my pension after I finish my contact. Is this true?

No. Your pension contributions are recorded at the pension office according to your ARC card number.

You can colect pension in the future at any time by producing an outbound airticket, your ARC number, and a foreign bank account number for deposit.

What if my AR card has expired?

If you are in the country AFTER your ARC has expired you have bigger worries than applying for your pension.

Your ARC number however never expires. It is yours forever. You can apply for your pension refund anytime but it is easier to do it BEFORE you leave Korea instead of AFTER you have left and are already in your own country.

Just fill in the applications and show your outbound ticket and away you go.

Here are the details.

I will finish my contract on the 15th. I am planning to go to Thailand for two months then I will return to Korea, at that time my ARC will expire as well as my visa. Then I plan on returning to Korea on a tourist visa. Can I claim my pension at that time?

THanks for all the help

Make sure you keep track of the registration number on your ARC. Photocopy it.
If yuo are leaving for Thailand, take your plane ticket, ARC and bank account number to the pension office before you leave.

Then you'll have some money in your account for a buffer when you return.

If you are planning to work again, there is no need to take your money out of the pension account. Contributions from your new job will be added to the existing account.

I returned to Korea as a "tourist" to organize my pension refund. No problem.
