Well-stacked desktops for $399. Notebooks for $499. Peripherals for chump change.

Every time I visit the States I remember why people enjoy living here.

Yeah.
You can get real big discounts in the West. Korea sucks for that. Everything is full-price or near.

Compare so-called rockbottom Yongsan prices on Danawa.com to the real deals on Newegg.com.

My Laptop just developed one too many problems (now no "comma" key) and I am ready to get a desktop. I am going to America nex month. Maybe I should just get my desktop there and carry it back in luggage. I could get the CPU in one bag and the monitor in the bag. Each bag is 32 kg limit; should be no problem; I can still fit in deoderant and nyquil. Then I don't have to mess with crazy Korean language windows or anything. Has anyone ever carried a Desktop computer over in checked luggage? Am I missing anything?
Thanks; Drew

if someone doesn't need hangul (keyboard, OS) then is there any reason to buy in Korea? ANY? (I'm speaking of laptops, mainly)

The best pc deal I ever got was in Korea. Of course, it was a fluke (happened around 1999).

Combo DVD/CD reader and burner.
1.8 Ghz
Nearly a gig of ram
can't recall how big the HD was.
17 inch monitor.

Price: around 1.5 million won
How much I paid: Zero won.

Seriously! I ordered the pc in Pusan (it was one of those large pc plazas/marts with many vendors), paid with my credit card, and it was delivered a few days later. I had to get the DVD reader/burner replaced, but my card never got charged.

I don't know how the vendor screwed up, but I didn't care. I had done my part and tried to pay.
