That's why the Korea Herald NEVER runs stories about crooked hogwan owners. That's why Herald Media attacks Dave's ESL- this is where so many of us get the help we need to legally defend ourselves and our rights. Follow the money.

Well yeah , of course. And, btw, they own the Kids Herald (or whatever the f they're calling it now) chain of hagwons. About 8 months ago, they released a textbook series that rips off Engligh Time in a major way, and forced all branches to use it., from what I was told by the bossman.
Dolla dolla bills, yall. |

PM me if you want to know about the shite I had to endure at the Herald's headquarters! What a nightmare! Had to play hard ball with them at the end of it. |

You too are 100 percent correct. The Herald may be on the right trail when it comes to criticisng ESL Cafe but what about it's own businesses? Its hogwans are a disgrace which regularly cheat teachers and its English immersion operation is basically bankrupt and has left a lot of English teachers with very bitter experiences. If Chris Gelken is serious about investigating the EFL game, he should sit down with his boss and start asking some hard questions. But then he'd get fired and he'd have no choice but to joint the rest of us and start teaching English. I'm all for pointing out people's problems but the best place to start is always at home. |

So, all of the Herald hogwans are bad? Kids Herald, Korea Herald, and whatever other names they may have? If there's a Herald in its name, the best thing to do is stay away? |

I do have a friend who works a Kids' Herald, and he seems to be happy with his boss. However, that said school had some complaints about it in the past, but it doesn't now. That is what I can gather. So maybe the owners of that branch changed their tune a bit. Anyway, it is easy to bash English teachers. In many cases, we are foreigners trying to make it in a foreign land where we don't speak the language, and so many bosses try to take advantage of our foreign backgrounds. Of course, people in those situations will complain. I am sure the person who wrote that article would complain if he were in that situation. |
