Who here has actually tried asking for menstrual leave? How did you explain it to your boss? Did it work?
I had miserable cramps, a headache, and vomiting yesterday. I'd rather that was menstrual leave than a sick day. |

Call in and say you got really wasted and are to hung over to teach. That will be more accepted than the red tide explanation. |

I know that Japanese labor law has a clause to allow women to take 1 menstrual leave day per month. I can't remember what the Korean labor law has written in it but I think their is a similar clause - perhaps someone here will know.
I think you just need to call in as 'sick' and just tell the employer it's because of 'women's issues.'

I believe that the law here has changed now. You can take the day, but it is no longer paid. |

wow that sounds really awful....
wouldnt it just be easier to take it as a paid sick leave day to avoid trying to explain to your boss???? (could you take menstrual leave at your former workplace back home??...ive not heard of someone taking that before)
tylenol helps for the cramping for me and just take care of yourself

I notice the girls in my university conversation class use menstral probs. as an absence excuse. When I ask them, or their friends, where they are - they just say they are/were sick and hold their stomachs.
They are not trying to pull one over - I don't take attendance and they usually like to come to class and have a good time. So I guess womans' problems as an absence excuse is an accepted part of Korean femininity. |
