Crossfire existed back then? Robert Novak has been on TV that long? You'd think after a decade of him someone would realise he needs to be locked up in one of those Eastern European outsourced prisons.
Did that show ever have intelligent hosts? Christ's crotch. Some of the most offensive ideas I've heard don't have those "seven words" they're arguing over. Incest doesn't need four-letter words to get its idea across. |

The US certainly has moved further down that path since 86, no doubt about it.

But not so witty.
I felt like poor Frank just didn't have the issue sussed out as well as the goofballs surrounding him. Don't get me wrong; I think Zappa was in the same league of genius as Tom Waits, and although he is basically right in his views, he didn't seem to be able to articulate them on the spot so well.
Seems like his Achilles heel would have been honesty in all situations, highlighted when sitting with a bunch of political vipers, paid for their "views".
He looked great though, didn't he? |

If he lacked anything, it was patience to deal with morons. |

alright. they say zappa was innovative or something, but his music sound soulless to me. "hey, let's play in an odd key signature. let's try something different. screw how it sounds, if you talk about it enough, we'll convince people that it's good. soul is for losers. let's hire steve vai."
he's someone that people enjoy talking about more than listening to. he must be. noone listens to him, but everyone talks about him.
it's like monty python. if noone told you it was supposed to be funny and there was no laugh track, would you even be aware that it was a comedy?
and don't try to argue some anal retentive point. i listen to stuff in odd key signatures. i listen to fast guitarists. but at no point in listening to him do i ever say "wow. i'm glad this guy decided to be a musician." i mostly just think "ok, this is some middle of the road boring shit. why the hell does everyone love this guy."
jinju's hung up about people who listen to radiohead, what about this douchebag. i'm glad he's not against the 1st amendment, and some of those guys should be summarily executed, but jesus. |

Funny video. I love the opening graphics and music!!
Seems like Frank didn't prepare very well, though. He got pinned on a couple issues he ought not have gotten pinned on. He didn't mention the slippery slope. He missed his chance about the purpose of government when that was brought up. He didn't point out that violence and problems have existed long before rock music or curse words. Etc.
Basically, he floundered.
I was 5 years old when that video originally aired. Wow. I had no idea the imaginary "left vs. right" debate was already being pushed on Americans back then. How sad. |
