Are sealed transcripts really necessary? And are certified copies of the transcripts okay (sealed if necessary)? Thanks in advance.

I'm afraid so. You MUST have sealed transcripts from your university. I don't think notorized copies are acceptable. They have to be straight from your school. Also, I heard there's a new rule. They can't be more than 3 months old. So forget bringing extra copies with you to Korea for the next year or two years later. They won't be accepted. Pretty stupid, huh? Like your transcripts will ever change.

My university only issues two copies of the original transcripts so if I use one I'm screwed as I can't use the only remaining original. Korea is looking less and less appealing. Do they return the transcripts so they can be re-sealed?

I think it would be a good idea to get this topic made into a STICKY with definitive advice on the current standing of the transcript situation.

I've worked in Kuwait and in China and NOT ONCE did they ask for my transcripts.

Also, like some universities, mine don't date them, for the places I've worked for, there seemed to be no use to show them.

ok ....i've calmed down now...i can speak......I would also advise that you make sure that the stamp is exactly aligned...not even half a millimetre off...all mine came like that...

Just last week my transcripts were rejected because there wasn't a signature IN ADDITION TO a stamp. The person also opened the envelopes, so now no one can scribble a fake signature on there and bring them back.

This is the THIRD time I'm sending transcripts for this job!

Having taught in South Korea for 6 years, I am fully aware of the laxivity of the situation back then.
But I think Korea is going down the same road as Taiwan but with not as many disasters as they face (It is almost impossible to work in Taiwan now) but in the end, it will hurt the Korean education system more.

How, you may ask?.....

Ok, take the current drive to put teachers into public schools throughout the country. It might seem like a good idea at the moment, but once the system has been in place for a while, the bureaucracy involved will become overwhelming and there might be a point in time where they might ask all foreign teachers to come to Korea with teaching certificates from their homecountries, just like Taiwan. Being that Korea is only desirable to a point when it comes to pay, once the crap hits the fan, there might (I said might) come a time when no one would come to Korea to teach because the rules of getting a work permit are too strict.

And I still don't buy the argument, "If they want better teachers, they must up the anty on conditions".....If that were true, there would be no need to complain on Dave's- point blank~!

I feel that this is completely outlandish, the government is doing the work that the schools should be doing, but can't do because they can't be trusted. I hope the next goverment is more understanding of the need to have foreigners integrated into Korean society...
