|
|
I went to the Korean consulate in Vancouver today to get some notarised copies made of my degree and they said they had to have a sealed transcript of my academic record from the uni where I got my degree. Thankfully I had one. The funny thing was, they returned my sealed envelope unopened. They didn't even want to see what was inside, apparently.
Anyways, this is just a heads-up for anyone going to a consulate to get degree copies notarised. |

They just want to be sure you aren't submitting a fake. Of course, it's their job to check that out, but it's a lot of work for them to do so. I mean, who the hell wants to pick up a phone?
I think it's really funny that you slapped down transcripts after they expected to send you home with your tail between your legs.
I bet they thought, "Oh gee! I actually DO have to work today!" |

it is a good idea to keep a photocopy of your degree and transcripts just in case the Korean Consulate office in your own country ask for it.
Sydney office definately require these photocopies.
When I went there though for my visa, I had sealed transcripts, but they did not open them, they just sighted them and said thanks. They did not open them.
Vancouver sometimes ask for the photocopies, Toronto have not asked for them yet. Montreal do ask for them.
I don't deal with many consulates in USA but I know New York and Dallas, Texas require the two photocopies, as does London and Dublin.
In my experience, if you are applying for an E2 visa (i.e. you have been issued your visa number and are just needing the stamp in your passport), from an office outside of your local juristiction, you will probably need a photocopy of your transcripts and degree.
For example, you live in Halifax but you plan on going to the Vancouver consulate to get your stamp, you will need at least photocopies of your transcripts and degree.
Now you can't open your transcripts, but you probably have a scanned copy on your computer or you can use the ones the university originally gave you. If you have no others, order more.
If you have already sent your original degree to Korea, just ask the school or recruiter to scan it and email it or fax it back to you.
Again, before someone posts that they went to such and such office and they did not need anything like the above, that is because of the inconsistency with these offices. So it is just better to be prepared. |

I thought this had been the case for a while (although things seem to vary by location.) New York opened and kept my transcripts. |

Only those with fake diplomas fear this transcript requirement. |

They don't have much to fear if the consulate doesn't open the envelope. |

The Korean Embassy in Bangkok does not require a transcript.

Nah. It is just a pain. It takes time and money to meet this requirement. Since I am in Thailand it costs about $60usd to have a copy of my transcript shipped to me. I did not mind the first time, but if they require the transcripts to be less than 3months old, I may just write off Korea and look at Tawian. |
