However, my employer charged me 5% tax for 2 years which was 3X the correct amount. I found out that I was quickly registered for this 3.3% taxation bracket as soon as I started making enqueries into the approximate 2mil won in tax return $ that I am owed. The NTS' response is that my employer must have registered as 'an independant contractor' which stipulates 1. that I'm independant 2. I file my own tax and 3. that I prescribe the nature of my work and service -not my employer. None of these sound like me.

My old school (ENI School) did that to me for years without letting me know. When you go in to get proof of income, you'll find out they have nothing under your name. Not great if you need to prove you've been makin' money for X amount of years. |

I go here http://nts.go.kr/front/service/refer_cal/gani/refer_gani_eng.asp like most ESL Teachers do. This is a legitimate service provided by the NTS. Employers ought to get accustomed to actual dollar amounts instead of using this Steve Forbes flat tax. My first employer deducted the exact dollar amount calculated from the NTS website. |

first year I was ripped off to the tune of 3.3%
after that I learned my lesson and made them go with the monthly withholding tax......the public school had no problem with that and as a matter of fact I never had to ask them....its what HONEST schools do! |
