I totally disagree. I enjoy both, as do some of my friends. In fact, I might even go out on the limb a little further and say that generally these are the same people. People who like to go out to public events and have a good time with a lot of other people. Both events are generally party atmospheres with a lot of fun-loving people. Not opposites in my book.

As one of my friends back in Chicago likes to say, it's all about the beer in a plastic cup. Sporting events, concerts, house parties. Always a great time. It's because they serve beer in plastic cups.

As for the topic, I don't remember my first concert. Undoubtedly something really lame like Amy Grant or Petra or White Heart. Rez Band or Stryper would be a worthwhile mention, but I doubt they were my first.

I'm not saying I wouldn't have fun at concerts, just that I far prefer sports to music, that's all. I'm sure I would enjoy a live music event, just not as much as I would if I was watching Watford kick off their Premiership season away to Everton!!!

Oh no, sorry, but I'm going to take the Most Pathetic award with ...

Barry Manilow. 1978 at the Greek Theatre, not with my mom but my first real boyfriend. My next concert was Heart, which helped to get the stink of Manilow off of me, but I'm afraid the stain will last forever.

I bow in defeat. Second concert was a a bit better Georgia Satellites.

He he, this reminds me of a time when we were listening to a talk radio show at work. The host (Tom Lykis, I think, a sharp tongued type) was discussing how Grateful Dead fans spend tons of money on essentially the same thing over and over. We were getting kind of bored with it and almost turned it off when he said, "on the line... a cell phone caller, "Nancy." (Not her real name, in fact it was a co worker with a really unusual name, we knew it was her b/c she had just driven away from us.)

She argued that people who go to multiple games of a sport team were no different than DeadHeads (she is a proud one at that) and the host just clipped her...

"AH SHUT UP! <click> Just what this country needs is another woman with a cell phone and an agenda!" Too funny.

My first concert: Little Feat opened for Melissa Etheridge, Lake Compounce, Bristol, CT circa 1987

My most recent: Roger Waters Dark Side of the Moon, Red Square

Awesome!

My first ever concert was The Farm at the Liverpool Royal Court in December 1992. My mate and I shared 5 cans of Stella prior to the show and were absolutely hammered Exclamation We were only 15 at the time.... Laughing

Korn in 1997.

I was 17 and out of my element. Little concert hall, lots of people jammed in going nuts. Fighting my life in the pit. Superb!!!

my last was james brown, right here in seoul! i'm so glad i caught that one, because he's not going to be around forever, and i know that in 50 years time i will look back and think 'i saw james brown! how cool was that!'

In '85 or '86 - Iron Maiden Poweslave Tour in Long Beach Arena.
Twisted Sister was opening act.
30' tall Eddie blew me away!

2nd concert was Monsters of Rock (i think it was called) at the L.A. Coliseum. Kindom Come, Metallica, Dokken(?), Scorpions, with Van Halen as headliner.

I remember Metallica opened with 'Creeping Death' and mass of people just started running down the stairs on to the field toward the stage. People were getting crushed, chairs flying, security running for their lives.

They shut the power during the middle of the song to restore order. Crazy!

Let's see: John Denver with parents, Neil Diamond with mom (nothing wrong with that one), Manilow with boyfriend. Clear winner. John Denver with parents.

Well how does Belinda Carlise with the WHOLE family sound followed by your next concert adventure of ready for this Bell Biv Devoe, Toni! Tony! Tone!, Gerardo, C&C Music Factory and Cathy Denis--man what a shameful thing to admit too Embarassed

I found my way to the good stuff after that but still.....what was my family thinking Shocked
