The information I have indicates the supervisor wants the teacher to keep his classroom more tidy. From this I gather they would like him to keep his desk and materials organized, pick up obvious trash from the floor, and not leave left over food in the room.
It is the same thing they ask of the other foriegn teacher who is more than happy to see to these basic house keeping chores. The school has never asked him to mop, sweep, empty trash, or clean windows or what not.
It really clearly is a case of a total inconsiderate idiot being allowed to stray for more than 50 miles of his original postal code. |

who's leftover food? The teachers? IF its the teacher leaving his/her food lying around then they are a slob.
On the other hand
I have heard this song and dance before...one teacher who does whatever is asked of them and thinks that anyone who doesnt suck up and do whatever is asked of them is 'not a team player' 
Without knowing the specifics of the incidence I wont pass judgement on either teacher.
One thing the teacher who is being asked could do is: get the students to clean up in the last 3 or 4 minutes of class....thats what I always did  |

It is not a song and dance grotto. It is about one person being asked reasonably to take a bit of responsibility for his work space. He is being a whiney as*hole and refusing to do so. Contract this, korean constitution that, blah blah whatever.
To hell with him. I hope the school uses that nice contract to give him the required contractual 30(or whatever days notice) and punt his ass out the door.
You really had your students clean up your desk for you?
That is jacked up. |

What if the teacher has a designated classroom as "his/her" classroom?
I almost always agree with captain corea and grotto, however not this time. If the teacher has a designated classroom (i.e. no one else uses it; it's the English teacher's classroom and no one else), then yes, they should clean it. That is part of a teacher's responsibility; providing a clean and friendly work enviornment. It isn't that big of a deal when looking at the grander scheme of things. Would you REALLY want to whine and moan over something so miniscule as this?!?!??!??!  A lot of people would thank their lucky stars if this was the ONLY problem they faced.
Hell, have the children clean it! |

Teachers that walk around with the contract in their "pockets" are usually the one's that cause problems for good decent English teachers. THEY are the one's that at times make it difficult for others.

Should he keep his desk clean? Yes he should.
Should he pick up obvious trash? Yes... He could be proactive to get his own students to do it, and hold them accountable....
Shold the students leave left over food in the classroom? Negatory!....
It sounds to me like his students have a high regards for the fundamentals of cleanliness. Has this person tried everything in his power? Is the boss giving this person support? Is the boss telling the worker not to cut activities short, and then clean up afterwords? Are there any conflicts between this third party relaying the information and the worker asked to perform the said tasks? Are the kids refusing to clean their messes up?
Without these questions answered it's hard to get a clear picture of what's really going on. Yes he should clean his desk though |

| From what I am told the left over food is the teachers. I rarely ever see korean kids leave food behind. Most of the time they will lick red pepper sauce right up off the floor to fill the much wanted Dok Bo Ki high. |

Now that Dan has clarified on the duties that the teacher is "neglecting", I will claify my statement.
Keeping the classroom managed and tidy is the teachers responsibility. Especially if this is the teacher's "main room/home room.
If the duties go beyond tidying up (ie. mopping waxing, painting - which they do not seem to be in this case) then it is the schools responsibility.
So, CubanLord, you can go back to agreeing with me now

my students cleaned up after themselves....my desk is and was my responsibility....and I agree absolutely that the teacher should keep it tidy! |
