What's with Korean American girls and golf? Kimberley Kim just became the youngest ever US Women's Amateur champion at 14 years old. 14!!!!

You've got to love this quote:

Quote:
Kim, who has a mouthful of braces and says her hobby is sleeping, has been living recently in Arizona to be able to participate in more tournaments.

I go into mild culture shock whenever I hear this statement from students. Does this not faze anyone when they hear it in Hawaii? Because I would have thought if you were a 14 year old in America and said that in school people would look at you like you were crazy - and so you would maybe stop saying things like that. Apparently this is not the case.

I just feel sorry for all of these young golfers. Michelle Wie recently had to pull out of a tournament for exhaustion. How old is she? 17? No, seventeen year old should be suffering from exhaustion. Lay off the pressure parenting, geez.

Looks like the Korean golfing phenomenon is taking off. Only the rich elite can afford to get in on it though.

As recently as 1997, the LPGA tour included no South Korean players. With the LPGA Championship beginning here Thursday at Bulle Rock, not only are 32 South Koreans, including seven rookies this season, playing full time on the tour, but with increasing frequency, they're winning.

That was HEAT exhaustion though, not just from every day stuff. So, methinks not that big a deal. I know I pulled out of a track meet when I was 13 cuz of heat exhaustion.

Sure, she's superior to all us lowly daveseslcafe posters but I can still get fazed when whole generations of kids are so exhausted they think sleeping is a hobby.

For some people the issue is too much parental pressure on their kids. For me the issue is misuse of the word 'hobby'! Wink

Rawiri, you do not win this:

...about her saying her hobby is sleeping, I don't think it's all that weird. It's kind of a funny little thing to say. Anybody think it's weird that her name is Kim Kim?
