If those who get a lot of vacation time get paid, great. If not, I imagine it is costly.

it's not vacation if your not getting paid, then it would be called unpaid leave.

Yes, it is paid 'vacation', but, then again, I spent a good chunk of it writing, reading up, and developing classes. Got one official publishing confirmation, and a few other papers submitted or revised. Such is life. Still, I like the freedom, and it's one of the reasons I wanted into this career field in the first place.

I just remembered, I get another week at the end of December!

Two weeks then in all, plus 50 Fridays = two months

Decent working conditions for a hagwon.

I teach in a language teacher education program. I get twelve weeks a year (1 five-week block, 1 four-week block, and 3 one-week blocks).

However, even when teaching a full load (12 hours - 2 courses, 4 sections), I effectively am in the classroom only three days a week (2 weekends each week!). And right now, I'm deloaded (6 hours - 1 course, two sections) for half a year, which I receive every other year. This gives me time to do research.

Add in that I get paid more to do this than the average teaching job, and it's pretty good work, despite a bit less vacation than most are getting.

any comments?

This year I will hit a total of about 10 weeks (I got lucky). Normally, it is 6 weeks.

Is that a university job....most of the people that I have met (which is not that many get a week or two)...are you including the holidays??

It's a private elementary school job. Yes, that includes 3 - 2 week vacation blocks (4 this year). The extra 2 weeks consists of the various holidays.
