The boss and I finally had our talk about me making extra income. They didn't want me taking a second job because my hours would be fixed at the other school and they wouldn't be able to pimp me out if they had a juicy private lessons client. However they encouraged me to go ahead and teach one-on-one lessons as much as I want. They offered me the following deal: If they arrange private lessons for me, they take 50% of the fee. If I arrange my own and want to use the school's premises (and stamp of legality) they take 30% of what I charge. If I want to do my own off-site, it was *wink*wink* and good luck to me.

I don't know if it would be legal or not, but they're not going to tell me not to do it.

30% was more than I wanted to offer but still it's not bad. Since we don't even know 30% of what, I'm not giving away too much, so I decided not to argue. I can always haggle later when I have some real students, and I think making concessions at the start of a negotiation builds goodwill and obligates the other side to "owe me one" when I want something later.
