Has anyone heard of this franchise? Any opinions or warmings? I am about to sign up with them at one of their Cheongju branches. |

Huge franchise chain. Some are REALLY good, some are on the blacklists. They are ALL different.
TALK to MORE THAN ONE of the current staff via e-mail ( when the boss isn't watching/reading over their shoulder ) about conditions at that particular hakwon.
The usual list of questions applies.
Salary: on time, deductions, overtime (do you actually get it?)
Holidays: when, how, blocks or individual days, who chooses when?
Medical/pension: yes (for real or just mentioned in the contract but non existant?
Classes: how long, how many per day/week/month.
Housing: type, size, costs, extra fees (there is no such thing as a free apartment, you pay for utilities and maintenence fees).
Anything that you think is important for your "quality of life issues" like shopping, supermarkets, other consumer facilities.
How are the staff?

This is one of the biggest chains in korea. They are all franchises so conditions will vary a lot depending on location. Search the blacklists for specific refreences to cheongju GnB. Also ask for an email of a current teacher. If they won't let you talk to a current teacher, then things must be really bad. |

I work for a GnB.... you cannot judge a job based on the franchise name. I love my job for the mostpart, yet have heard other GnB teachers complaining about theirs. I get to choose my own books, and sometimes work with GnB books and I really like them - though i have hear others complain about them as well.
Get as much info as you can on the individual job. |

I had to teach using their books for a while. Ugh. The books are basically a scam. They're designed to last for one month per, and are largely based around grammar translation and drills.
If you have to use their texts, don't waste your time. |
