why are so many elderly people always hanging out in jongno-samga station? they don't appear to be homeless or demonstrators or drunks. why would any one want to hang out there?

They arent. They are hanging out at the park (exit 11 I think). The ones you see at the station are either going there or coming from there.

Lots of reasons. Centrally located, easily reached by bus & subway, there's a park & temples nearby. Many big-name pharmacies around there as well. Also, several church groups operate a free-meals programme in Jongno for the elderly who gather there. I've seen their truck many times. Namsan Park is another big oldies hangout.

There are a lot of gay saunas and love hotels in Jongno-samga, where many old ajosshis go to pick up.

I'm talking at least 200 old men going there per day.

Particularly in those back streets behind all the jewellery shops (it is on the other side of the street to Jongno YBM).

They aren't going there just to sit in the park.

There's also the flea market behind Tapgol Park.

I hang out there alot. Its a good place to buy lab ware, chemicals and electro mechanical devices . I got ripped off and sneered at several times, the guys on the front street can be real A-Holes, a block in or so they get much nicer.

Eu Jiro Sam Ga has tools and and materials. Its Home Depot plis craftsman.

The geezers like the park and they really appreciate the medical device stores where they can get cath bags and the like.
