I'm continually getting this error if I run Alcohol 120%. It doesn't seem to affect the program in anyway i.e. it still seems to work ok.

I've googled but it seems there are many different types of socket errors. It's a bit confusing, no real clear answers.

I'd like to know what this is... Is it something to do with an internet connection or hardware based?

I'm thinking it might be related to the fact that it's an version that had been slightly modified so as not to call home (for reasons which should be reasonable obvious) but I'm just guessing here.

Any ideas?

I'm on a PC with Windows....

The error message comes up when I first run the program. When I hit 'OK', the message goes away - I don't see it again (until the next time I start up the program)

Yeah.

Are you letting the program have internet access? I doubt it, yes?

No... it's blocked from calling home. Any connection will invalidate the serial I believe... Or something like that. I don't remember the
crack/patch process; it was a few months ago when I installed it.

Anyway, what I really want to know is what is a socket error? Do you really think it's to do with the url block?

A socket could be described as a software port between the program (OS in the middle) and a network protocol. (TCP/IP, etc...). You blocked the program from accessing the net, therefore, the software can't get to the net, so it can't read or write to or from the socket, thus it generates the error window.

The software works fine and all, yes?

Did you get "blocker.exe" as well?

Wink

Juregen: Thanks for the links. The second one was good.

Demophobe: Thanks for your explaination. Nice and clear.

So, it seems it almost definitely the 'url forbid' that causes the error. Just a little unusual cause I think I have a couple of other programs that function in a similar manner but don't get that error with them.

Anyway, thanks again. Have a nice weekend.

PS. "Blocker.exe": There is a new .exe that replaces the original .exe and the blocker is part of that...
