Hi,

Last week i made a snap decision to visit the Philippines without thinking through my decision. It's now 4pm on Thursday afternoon and I fly to Manila tomorrow night, still with no decisions made with where to go once there. I've spent the last 3 hours studying the LP and everytime I think I've made a decision I think "but then...".

This is what I'm thinking:

1. I only have 8 full days and it seems like traveling about is time consuming.
2. I wanted a mix of the beautiful lakes and/or archipeligo that Palawan seems to offer, combined with the jungle and cultural melting pot of Bohol. However travel between these two destinations is far from simple.
3. If I go to Busuanga in Palawan how much is there to do in a week? How easy is it to travel down to El Nido? The accomodation options here seem hardly enticing.
4. If I go to Bohol, there seems to be more to do: beaches on Alona, Chocolate Hills, Whale watching, Nuts Huts Loboc River Stay. However I'll be missing the jaw dropping sights of Palawan?
5. It seems it's either go for the wonderment that Palawan offers and base my trip around that, or pack my trip with several interesting alternatives?
6. The weather is obviously a factor to consider as well?

I'm kicking myself in a way as an 8 day trip is not going to do the Philippines justice I feel, perhaps I should have waited and spent a month or so here at a later date?

I understand I can't do everything in 8 days, but I need to book an onwards internal flight asap.

Is it to Palawan or Bohol? Or somewhere else..... Aaaaagh!!! I've a headache.

Any advice please?

I will admit that I am MORE than PARTIAL to BOHOL.
http://www.bohol.ph/

You can enjoy the beach down on Panglau, get a hire car and do the island up right. Shopping in Tagbilaran. Flight from Manila OR catch a bird to Cebu (about a dozen a day) and then a 2 hour ferry ride to Bohol.

If you want some more adventure, get up to Talibon (on the North end of the Island) and get a room (the pension house is right across from Alturas shopping and the market).

Catch a v-hire from the terminal next to the new mall in Tagbilaran or have a big adventure and take the ferry from Cebu to Tubigon and work your way up island. (ferrys leave just about every hour).

There is a fiesta somewhere on the island EVERY day in the summer time.

Then if you want a little more, pop over to Cebu for a day or two and then make your way home. You will also be able to do some shopping for spices and things from home that you can't get here.

Palawan is also VERY good but MUCH harder to get to and get around on. It is a trip on it's own.

8 days is a few on the beach to unwind, a few to see the sights of the island and a couple to do some shopping before you wind your way home.

If you want a decent place to stay at AFFORDABLE rates and NO Koreans, try Alona Tropical. Rates for a cabin right on the beach are $25 per night (including breakfast). Dive shop on site as well as a nice pool.
Alona Tropical Resort, Alona Beach, Tel. +63 38 502-9024.

ALTERNATIVELY, if you fly down to CEBU, on the same island as the airport and directly across the road from Mactan Gaisano Mall you will find the 3Jm Travel Agency / ticket office and cyber cafe.

Ask for FLORA. Tell her you came down from Korea and a teacher friend recommended you to her. She will take good care of you and get you whatever adventure you want (including maybe 4 days in Palawan, or volcano climbing and hot springs on Camiguin and a trip to the beaches on Bohol or the surf break (Cloud 9) on Siargao. You will get Filipino pricing instead of the tourist prices.

Both really good decisions. But definetely a one or the other decision.

Palawan: Puerto Princessa has a lot to offer! As does the islands off of El Nido. Between the two places, you could fill those 8 days quite nicely.

Bohol: Excellent choice as well. Quite a few beaches here, and quite a few other options. Bohol only takes about one full day to take in. Panglao Island's Alona Beach is quite nice too.. but much nicer with a girlfriend to enjoy. Or if you are into diving. Might be a bit boring for too long though if just on your own. The good thing about Bohol is you could visit so many other nearby places by ferries. Cebu or Dumaguete.. or I think there are even ferries to some some places in the northern regions of Mindinao which are also popular. Malapascua Island (on top of Cebu Island) is also within reach.

One of the frustating things about Palawan is how hard it is to get around there or from and away from there. But there is a lot to do. I flew into Puerto Princesa.. bummed around there for a few days (and quite liked it a lot! - wish I had even more time to have spent there!).. and then bussed it up to El Nido to bum around a few days. There are also flights going in and out of El Nido.. but from a very very small little plane.
