I have actually heard people complain about requirements for a Criminal Record Check before anyone can be hired as a teacher. In the last couple of years, South Korea has started to require a Criminal Record Check - but see below how useful it is.

Look at this link... even with a conviction for child porn, the man who is to be charged with 7 year old JonBenet Ramsey's murder in 1996 was able to enter Thailand and look for a job.

Triple YUCK - ESL teachers should be REQUIRED to have Criminal Record Checks - it's scary to think how many pedophiles are teaching. (At my public school system last year in Kunpo, some dude - who presumably had "passed" his US Criminal Record Check - got caught fooling with the female students at his high school. So what did the silly school do? Just tossed him out of SK - no criminal charges - so HE is probably teaching someplace else in Asia.)

Sure I am all for criminal record check. Wouldn't it be easier just to deny passport issuance by our countries if you have a criminal record. I think Canada has a similar policy.

Any who, who is gone fork out for this criminal record check?

Oh God, good point Shane. Geez this is going to get blown WAY out of proportion...give it a week or so. They'll dig it up.

Suddenly we are all criminals because one paper says so.

A criminal record should be encoded into the passport.

It'd save us having to go through so much hassle trying to order one from korea.

How do you get a criminal record check if you haven't lived in the same place longer than a year in the past decade?

... when you've lived in different places???

My Criminal Record Check is thru the FBI - I don't know if they check worldwide criminal records or if it is just all USA. If so, I could be a terrorist or pedophile or shoplifter every other place on earth and my FBI check wouldn't show it.

Dunno if you colonials go thru your povinces or if you have national system. In Canada I t hink you just go to local Mounties.

You can always go to the Mounties, but if your city has it's own police force, you can go to them too.

Does anyone know anything about the recruiting firm for Karr?
JOB 4 TEACHER.com
International Recruiting Co., Inc.

I'm sure they will be out of biz soon.

Criminals are everywhere in the world. They come in all shapes, sizes, and professions. At a PC bang right now? Look around. There's a good chance someone may be a criminal. EVERYBODY PANIC! Close your blinds, lock your door, watch the news attentively, support a war and never, never open your door. Feel better now? And remember, someone reading this post right now is the criminal in the room.

My Uni asked me to get a criminal records check done. Too bad it takes "in excess of 150 working days". My contract will probably be over before then. I'm planning on sitting on the paper work until my boss asks for it and then launching into my immitation of him. "Please, you must understand ..."
