|
|
| Before when you were to be issued an E2 visa you were given an E2 visa and that taken to an Embassy to be issued a visa. I have been doing some part time illegal work for a school and I am planning on working for her after my contract expires. She has told me that Immigration told her than her and I must go to Immigration together with my documents and that the E-2 visa will be issued a week later. Is this true? Have they changed the visa issuing process in Korea? |

| Wrong. You must do the paperwork at a Korean Embassy, i.e., outside of Korea. She's either telling you a story or she doesn't know what she's talking about. |

Nope! Not unless she stupidly admitted you were working illegally for her and they want to catch / detain / harass you. |

The process is not for getting an E2, but it is possible to change to certain other types of visas from a tourist visa.
When my wife came to Korea on a tourist visa, she was able to change it from a C3 to an F2 at the chinese immigration section, she got her ARC about 3 weeks later.
And I know you can change from a teaching visa to a student visa, but in most cases I know about, you can't change from a tourist visa to a teaching visa in-country. |

| I'm not changing my visa. I am not on a tourist visa. I am on an E-1 Visa. I am currently working for Hankuk Aviation University and leaving because the working conditions are very poor. They also have not honoured any part of the contract. I am forced to work hours inexcess of my contract and days and not paid for any of them. Its by far worse than any Hogwon I have encountered. I have been doing some part time work in the morning for the lady I am intending to work for. For the past 5 months she has been super nice and very honest. That is why I am going to work for her. Her English skills aren't the best but she treats me with respect and is a honestly nice person. Which for some reason seems to be a rarity with directors in Korea. I think she might be a little confused with the visa process though. So I am trying to sort it out and I can't get any answers from immigration. I've called several times and never can get an English speaking person. |

Then it is a simple (sometimes simple) addition / change of workplace application.
Assuming you have your LOR from the place that holds your current E1 you MAY be able to change to an E2 without the visa run by making the application for the change at your local immigration office.
You will need your LOR/permission to change workplace from your old employer, new contract, and business registration from the new hakwon. This assumes she is licenced to support a FT and sponsor an E2.

| Well that's the catch 22 I suppose. I am already finished with my job at Hankuk Aviation University. But my current visa doesn't expire for another 2 months. I am applying for a new visa though. Is it a normal procedure for the teacher to obtain the blue form now? I am so confused by this. I can't get a straight answer. I finally found someone at Korean Immigration. But no one can answer me. |

There is NO blue form anymore.
You still need a release from your old employer cause you still have 2 months left on your visa. They MAY require you to get a new visa (meaning a visa run) or they may just transfer and extend your current visa.
Without the LOR you are probably hooped for the next 2 months.
Alternatively you MAY be able to simply leave the country and turn in your ARC. This will end your current visa. You then re-enter on a B1 tourist visa waiver and your current hakwon makes the application for the new E2. Then you do your visa run. There is NO guarantee that this will work but it has been occasionally done successfully in the past.
3rd option is go into the immigration office with your boss, explain that your UNI job is finished (even though you still have 2 months remaining on your visa) and MAYBE they will allow the transfer / change of sojourn status from E1 to E2. |
