Hello all,

Is it true that I can leave and go to Japan to cancel my work visa and then come right back and get a new one? If so can I get my new one at the same time I am there if I already have a job lined up?

Thanks for the help.

If you are on an E-2, and the visa period hasn't expired, you need to get a Letter Of Release from the previous employer.

You REALLY have to give more information! Is your E-2 expiring? Are you quitting? Does your current school KNOW that you're leaving? If you're changing jobs with the approval of all parties before your visa expires, you may not even have to go to Japan. You'd still have to go to immigration, but I think you can fill out a "change of venue" form and that's it. I did this several years ago...don't know if things have changed or not.

I have an E2 that does not expire until next summer. I gave the notice in my contract but they are still refusing to give me a release letter. What should I do?

Just split and go to Japan and get your new visa. Its done all the time. No letter of release necessary.

First, visit the labor board and they will phone your school to mediate a letter of release. You will need to take your contract with you and your ARC card.

In some areas, the letter of release doesn't even exist. Your school director will have to accompany you to the immigration office to cancel your visa.

annababy, I just saw some posting made in KFTRA freeboard. It's all in Korean but something to do with (Dave's ESL .... annababy). I don't know what you did or what they did... but be ready to be blacklisted in KFTRA website buddy.

I hope it's some compliment about you, but not hateful criticism.
