| I'm out of luck in finding new work in Korea because of the Visa? It expires November 17th. |
What I would be most concerned about is that if you applied for another new visa, the application form does ask specific questions including:
"Have you ever been issued a Korean Visa?"
"Has your Korean Visa ever been cancelled or revoked?"
"Have you ever been refused a Korean visa?"
Depending on your answers to these questions, they could be grounds for refusal of another visa.
If your current E2 visa is cancelled before expiration (or you don't show up on your current visa) it will be noted on your online immigration profile. There is no guarantee that they would be willing to issue a second E2 visa within a period of 3 months of the first being issued - even if you find some way to cancel the current one.
Having an unexpired E2 visa in your passport is also a problem. Even if you wait the 3 months and it has 'technically' expired - it will still be "flagged" on the immi computer system and that *could* cause you to be detained in the Questioning Room at airport immigration once your arrive. (That exact same thing happened to me once and it took over 3 hours to explain the paper trail before I could enter). |

So, if this school turns out to be a terrible idea, which it really is starting to sound like (some notes about two recent runners- might also explain why he's not paying for the ticket - be it financial troubles or general lack of trust ) I'm out of luck in finding new work in Korea because of the Visa? Whaaa?! You know they had two recent runners and you are accepting a job from them? What version of events did they give you for this? |

Do you have a visa yet? Is it in your passport?
If it is and you don't do anything, it will expire in 90 days and you are free to seek a new visa.
If you do NOT have the visa placed into your passport yet then you have nothing to worry about. |

No, I don't, or rather I didn't know and I still don't, it's just something I read online. I accepted the job over a month ago and the two teachers I talked to were ending their contracts soon, but at 12 months - the reason they gave were the split shifts which is understandable. They also have a kids' division so I think it may be in that part of the school. The good news is I'm getting a call from the current teacher later this afternoon.
Big update:
Grotto was right, in all his wisdom, they seem to be coming through and it reallly was a problem with the booking.
Still, my confidence is shaken a bit.
ttompatz: I have a visa in my passport.
Thanks again for all of the replies here, I've had a taste of working in Korea before I leave, this is going to be an interesting 12 months I think I'll have to become more easy-going! |

Your boss is probably among the very few who go through Aeroflot in Korea? Have you considered that your boss might be scouring these forums, and when he recognized your post and the calls of suspicion, that he might have decided that he'd better act sharpish?
Gotta consider all the possibilites!! Still seems strange that you were given the excuse that 'his credit card wasn't accepted'... |

Good point hotpants. Well, maybe he did read this, but if so it produced the required result! I have the visa, have a new ticket, talked to the staff that recruited me again, everything is sorted so despite some nervousness I'm not backing out now and will try to be positive - I'll be in Korea in 8 days so maybe I'll meet some of you helpful people. It's always a gamble going somewhere, landing a job out of the country, I can still remember my shock at the squat toilets with no locking doors in my first school in China.
jinju : yeah, I hate Aeroflot with an unreserved passion since my seat fell apart on an inter-europe flight. Avoid it.
The Aeroflot thing may be do to the fact that I'm coming from the Netherlands? Im sure that Korean schools don't deal with that too often. Who knows.
The good news is I suggested another flight and company and they've since bought the ticket - I do have to arrive a day earlier but more time to get over jet lag before I start. |

Well, now you've made your mind up, you should jump in with both feet.
I flew with KLM from Amsterdam. 'Just' 9 hours to Seoul. Should be better than Aeroflot?
Good luck, comrade! |
