Anyone got any advice on vacations in cheju? Things to see and do, must explorations and any advice on where to rent a couple of scooters would be musch appreciated. Also wondering if any foriegners in Cheju want to get together for drinks on the thanksgiving vacation. My kiwi friend and I (canadian) are planning on heading to the island for some relaxation, adventures and of course some partying. |

Check the climate cycles of Jeju carefully for when you're planning your trip. It can be a beautiful place but its also rains an incredible amount there..
On Jeju you can... Swim, SCUBA, Windsurf, Ride Horses, Hike, Skydive and Hang-glide off Mt. Halla. There are also inactive volanic tubes you can explore. |

I went on a very nice weekend Jeju trip this May. I recommend Hallim Park. It has a great sample of the many things on the island, the caves are really cool(but I like that sort of thing) and the prices are reasonable(entrance was only 5000 won). I had a great time there, it takes up about half to a full day if you want to go real slow and the island bus stops right in front of it, then you can walk across the road to the beach. |

Don't take a Korean tour group.
If you find a place to ride horses, check how long you get to ride.
Rent a car, not a slow scooter. Ride around on the eastern and western sides of the island. You will see some beautiful places and forget that you're in Korea. |

Best time to go is Chusok--almost completely quiet and empty as everyone stays home with their families. The roads are clear and it's a nice drive along the coast. We rented a car so I'm not sure about scooters but get one or the other, as buses (unless you are on a tour--not recommended) are few and far between. Going around the entire island is nice. We stayed in Cheju City and did the Western side on day and the Eastern side the other. One more full day would have been better. Short stays are best; more than five days might take the shine off.
All of the places the others mentioned are good choices to visit as well as "Sunrise mountain" (Songsan Ilchulbo) on the east coast and if you like history the Japanese kamikaze hangers are worth a look, though there's not much of them and getting to them is a bit of a pain.
Great place. |

Thanks for the tips folks. Renting a car sounds like a good idea however I understand that an international drivers license is a must. Unfortunatly that is one thing I forgot to do prior to arriving here. Does anyoe know of any rental car companies that will accept my Canadian drivers license?
Maestro, I am into caves as well so I will likely check that out. Anyone know of reasonably pried golf courses on the island.
I will let you know what I think of the island after I get back.
Thanks again to all. |

There are definitely some golf courses around but reasonably priced might be another matter. You might need to book a "golf package" from the travel agent to get anything reasonable. |
