I don't know what it is but ever since I've been here I've been drinking Fresh'n Tasty strawberry milk by the gallon. Every grocery store, convenience store, etc seems to have the stuff and I can't seem to resist.
Will I get over this? Please help. I've been in Seoul for about a month. |

I had the same habit last spring for about two weeks. Then I remembered that milk is evil so I stopped cold turkey. |

It's weird, you can buy this stuff in Canada as well, but I would only drink it occasionally. Maybe ingesting the clean, healthy Seoul air creates a chemical reaction in your body that makes you crave the stuff. I need to buy shares in this company. What have I got to lose, my mutual funds are going to crap anyway. |

I find that Koreans like to add suger to many foods, milk being the above example. But if you read the labels, many fruit juices also have suger add, even though it says 100% on it. (What do they mean, no water added?) I am not a big fan of suger in my drinks, that is all.

I have an idea of how you'll answer this, but how exactly is milk evil?
And do you eat beef? From your above statement, it sounded as if you're vegan! |

I eat beef, though I try and limit it to a secondary part of the meal and focus on things that are healthier such as vegetables and whatnot unless I buy it myself at the grocery store and pony up for the high quality product with very low fat then trim off the extra fat when I get home (well, the girlfriend does that).
Basically milk is pretty much nothing but water and fat coupled with other components that isn't really good for you despite the lovely ads on TV. Milk consumption (especially if you drink more than a token amount per day) will lead to more health problems than it solves.
One day I sat down and decided to look into why milk was given an exception in food labelling laws (I believe it's the only food item allowed to be mislabeled). Essentially 2% M.F. milk is actually something like 14% fat, etc. When I did that, I also started reading up on how milk has been linked to actually increasing the odds of osteoporosis to general skin disorders.
It's earily similiar to how uranium necklaces used to be sold "because they gave off good energy" or something around 1900, and how cigarettes were good for you.
So now for calcium I just eat a helping of spinach which is more useful than drinking milk and pick up the vitamin D from going for an afternoon walk during my lunch break.
Up note, in Korea you can buy a litre of pineapple juice for 580 Won at Emart. I have found love. |

Nothing like herbicides and pesticides to put a shine on your teeth!

I'd agree that there's lots of crap (such as hormones) in milk, but it's hardly water and fat. Calves wouldn't have become cows if milk wasn't packed with nutrients. Nor would you or I have grown much as babies if milk was merely "fatty water".
If you don't like the fat, there's always skim! |

I didn't mean to start a discussion on proper nutrition. The stuff tastes good. |

Not that I'm supporting El Capitan or anything, but the formula given to children doesn't have a lot in common with the milk we buy in the dairy section, does it? |

Breast milk and cow's milk are quite different, and our digestive systems are also very different.
Plus people are naturally lactose intollerant. But by ensuring we drink milk every day, it prevents the onset of this in most people.
Tonight when I get home I'll see if I can find the sites I used to read up on that talked about milk, the myths and the medical/nutritional facts. |

And CO2 was talking about the stuff that comes in big plastic jugs, as a minor offshoot of the Strawberry Milk. I can't magically guess you're talking about breast milk when everyone else is talking about the jugged stuff, context or not. |
