I have some insects in my apartment that I have not seen before. They are brown and resemble grasshoppers in as much as they hop and have the same back legs. However, where I come from grasshoppers are green and certainly don't live indoors.

They are fairly small about 1 cm in length excluding the feelers. I mainly see them at night and they are usually in the bathroom. Indeed, one met a sticky end in my bathroom light when I switched it on tonight. I don't know where they live in the day (in the drain?). They are usually on the floor, not on the walls, although the one in my light I guess climbed the walls because I have not seen them fly.

A few weeks ago, what I thought was a jumping spider hurtled past me one night, it was quite large and now I wonder if it was a similar insect, but a jumbo version. I don't even know if there are any jumping spiders.

Can anyone tell me what they are, and if so are they harmless?

You might be right. After reading your reply I googled 'cricket' and there are indeed house crickets, which was news to me. The only thing is these beasties don't make any noise.

I've had the same bugs in my bathroom and have had the same question. So far, they seem just annoying, not harmful.

I'm curious, where do you come from? How do you not know what a cricket looks like? I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just curious.

I've had crickets in my house and they don't always chirp for some reason.

I come from the UK. At home grasshoppers are bright green and fairly small, crickets are larger and light brown. Neither comes indoors and neither looks much like what I have here, back legs excepted.

Excuse my ignorance please!
