Oh jeez. I have been negotiating with a school for a little while (weeks,m even), one which I did a fair amount of research on, and I was pretty excited to go. After I accepted though they started taking back things from their offer, little by little. They reduced the salary, the reduced the number of vacation days, they retrated their statement that they would include the national pension in the contract... all of this, they said, is because the owner of the school was away on business the entire time they were negotiating my contract and didn't authorize any changes. Now, I believe that he may have been away in China, but this is still a somewhat bad situation.
Well, I just don't know if I can go to this place now. The current teachers seem happy and mystified by what is happening to me, but I'm still nervous. Should I even be considering this job offer at all anymore?

And... if I decide to can this and wait another month to leave the states, will I still be able to get a decent job? It seems like almost all the jobs are at the beginning of September...

I would give it a pass. There are plenty of jobs....all year round.

That is if you are willing to work in a hagwan.

If you are looking at public schools or universities...probably best to keep looking.

If they are already taking things before you arrive....they will only be worse when you get here.

Well, I would worry about them not putting the pension in the contract as its a law and they have to do it. Them wanting to omit it can be seen in 2 ways:

1) It's law and therefore they don't need it in the contract; or,
2) They plan not to pay which is illegal.

I would guess that the 2nd is the more likely reasons and this sends up red flags. As for the vacation/salary changes, re-negotiate now that the boss is back. It seems realistic that if the boss doesn't OK them, the negotiator can't change that. Just talk some more.

The only good jobs that start in Sept are the government jobs and you don't get that kind of crap from them.

If they're pissing with the contract now.. then move on.. there are hundreds of hakwons looking every month and hundreds more new ads placed every week.

AND if they are backing out of their LEGAL requirements now (10 days holidays by law, pension by law, medical by law) AND cutting your salary, what makes you think they will abide by the law later.

MOVE ON...
