So... those that are basically newbies and didn't know to book their tickets a hundred years ago and now have no place to go during chusok... are we out of luck? I was really hoping to go to Thailand for a scuba vacation but was dumb and didn't book my ticket when I had the chance. Now, it seems like it's not going to happen because the cheapest ticket I can find is 1M+ Won. I've called/emailed all the travel agents in the sticky and not one could help me... sigh
any destinations that aren't so popular that you guys would recommend around this time? I was really hoping to get scuba certified for cheap (<$300 + accomodations). Recommendations on what to do? Should I wait and see if there's a cancellation or should I bail on my scuba plans and go backpacking for a week somewhere? |

Orient Thai airlines (different to Thai Airways) is operating charter flights from Incheon to Bangkok (5 times a week) and Phuket (2 times a week) until 28 October, 2006.
Flight numbers:
OX301 Bangkok
OX311 Phuket
Thai Sky Airlines (http://www.thaiskyairlines.co.kr/) also running charter flights from Incheon to Bangkok (3 times a week) with flight number "9I287".
They are both really dodgy low-cost airlines. But if you are desperate enough to go, I would at least ASK a travel agent if either of these had any seats left. But you can't buy tickets online for these two carriers. |

|
|
Hi CAS,
Chuseok is tough to get a ticket out of country. So if you want to get a diver certification, try Jeju island right here in Korea.
There is a foreigner owned dive shop named Big Blue33, www.bigblue33.co.kr. Obviously the instructor speaks English,German and Korean. Im down here now and and the diving has been superb!!
With the reduced travel cost you can get certified, have some great diving from a super instructor and have fun in the sun on the island and there are loads of activities to do.

oh man, didn't even think of that! thanks a lot! have you tried this place out?
Do you know how much hotels would be in Jeju around that time of year? Also, I may just ride my motorbike down if it's right here in Korea, do you think that's possible? I do understand there's a fairy ride so I guess it depends on if they allow bikes on the fairy. Any word on this? |

I'm not really sure you'd be so into riding a fairy. Oh well, to each his own. |
