So I woke up this morning with raging back pain. Not sure what I was doing in my sleep to be in this much pain.
Any ideas for getting rid of it? It's crippling me!!

I used to get back pain but I emphasized by abdominal muscles at the gym and did specific back exercises and now I have no problem with my back. I have heard weak abdominal muscles can lead to back pain although I don't know if that is a problem with you or not. Is it your upper or lower back? Perhaps you could check the mattress you sleep on? That could be the reason as well.

Ideas for getting rid of it? As suggested, go to a sauna. Initially, though, you may try taking some ibuprofen. You can get it from most pharmacies, but you have to pronounce it with Korean pronunciation (or write it in English) or they likely won't understand you. Ee boo puh row pen. That's the closest I can get to the Korean sound. 이부프로펜, I think.

You need to see a doctor and find out if this is a muscle problem (easy to take care of; well, not easy, but easier) or a disc problem (much harder to deal with, but can be done without surgery - I know). But you really need to go see a doctor. If you have back pain that is "crippling" and the cause is a disc problem, delaying could have serious consequences. I urge you to go ASAP.

My back problems started with waking up one day with a stiff neck that didn't go away. I finally saw a doctor after four days of increasing stiffness and numbness. I was told that if I had waited much longer, I would have required surgery on broken vertebrae and could have had permanent nerve damage. As it is, it took six weeks of intensive physical therapy to restore feeling in my arm and get me to 'normal'. I've had a relapse recently (my fault - got to busy and didn't do my exercises), but another quick month of PT has righted things and convinced me that I need to change my life to always include my morning back exercises (a part of which is strengthening abs, as one poster noted.)

Go see a doctor tomorrow.

Now Woland has me scared!!! I'm sure it'll be fine in a couple of days.
It's upper back pain more on my right side.
I'm fairly athletic and my abs are reasonably strong. I have been doing a lot of extra miles running recently though, but I have had no immediate after effects.
I literally just woke up with back pain. It's a bitch cos I was meant to have a badminton match tomorrow!

I've had a variety of back ailments while in Korea/Canada. I blame it on sex. Years of not getting enough and then suddenly having to do all that thrusting. Handjobs are not hard on the back at all. I'm kidding of course, but not about the handjobs.

While in Korea I tried acupuncture Shocked , massage Cool and pills Confused . I don't know about that kimchi enema thing. I'm sure it would work though.

I had a serious flare-up in Canada recently and the pharmacist recommended Robax. I was thoroughly amazed at how quickly it helped. There were noticable improvements later in the day and big improvements by the next day. I wouldn't know if it's available in Korea, perhaps at one of those black markets.

Good luck. Back problems can be a real pain in the ....uh...back.

Saw a doctor this morning. She had a quick feel and then pulled my arms about and decided I've just pulled some muscle on the right side of my back. Good news is she told me not to rest it, which means my badminton match tonight is still on. Drug me up on painkillers and bring it on!!

Glad to hear that it wasn't anything major. Didn't mean to scare you, but disc problems are really serious, I learned, and pain is major signal of them.

Wow...either this person is really paranoid, or gets a comission from a doctor. On a serious note, I wake up sometimes and feel like I am paralyzed-- my whole spine feels like it is gonna break if I move. My buddy had serious back pains too, but he read this book that he swears by....it claims that 90% of back pains are psychological. After he read the book, the back pains suddenly disappeared. I can't remember the name/author, but I will find out as soon as I do...
