The tiredness after packing and moving and now you've gotta unpack/set up at least some of it if you want to be a little comfortable in your new home the first night ie: have a bed to sleep in.

I've moved more often than anyone else I know- 17 times, so far.

I hear a new, not-so-interesting contest beginning. I've moved 24 times over 4 countries since '96, off the top of my head.

Happy to say- you win. I couldn't handle that much mobility.

Anyway, I love moving. I definitely hate many parts of it, but the excitement of getting to a new place and being able to start again makes up for it for me.

That's me. That's the way I look at it. And it's an opportunity to unload all sorts of junk that's only been weighing you down and getting in your way all these years, thereby allowing you to ... rush out & buy more junk!

I'll wager that's 17 times during your entire life, isn't it? Well, isn't it? Thought so. I once sat down and listed all the places I've lived just in Asia, and it was higher than your figure. It worked out to more than one move per year, or as near as damn it. Then I'd stumble upon a packet of old letters and realise there was another address or two of mine I'd completely forgotten.

Plus there were those weeks (ok, months Sad) when some dingy room in a filthy inn would be "my home", all my belongings, my worldly wealth, stuffed into two suitcases in the corner of a sorry little room in a "bad part of town". But we mustn't pity the old Guru, or rather the young Guru then, no no, for he was in those days the most sexually active and effortlessly successful with women than at any other time in his entire life. It's said there's no more powerful aphrodisiac than money, but I do wonder. Were all those ladies attracted to the squalour & poverty, the chance to go 'slummin'? Were they taking pity on him? Whatever it was, it certainly worked. Cool

What I like least about moving -- broken, scratched or lost items.

Yes. But to clarify, these were 'uping and moving' to new permanent addresses (bring or throw out all your belongings, furniture and what have you, say goodbye to all your friends classmates, and coworkers, etc.) not simply 'mum, store my stuff while go I away on a working vacation for a bit' moving. And I didn't just do it through adulthood- I've had to do it every three or four years of my entire life since I was a baby (granted as a little kid I didn't have a whole heck of a lot to do in the way of packing and unpacking, but let's just say I suffer from a paradox of having itchy feet and while at the same time wanting to put down roots).

Anyway, I've already admitted I'm not winning this contest, so I'll leave it at that. Razz

Establishing yourself in your new neighborhood with the local businesses - convenience store, barber, post office. I have to repeat my life story for the zillionth time to these people. Rolling Eyes

Changing barbers pisses me off the most. Just when he learns to get my hair the way I like it I have to move again. Twisted Evil

Oh, I can't even start to count the times- but it is way over 17.

What I hate the most is the psychology of moving. Everything is turned upside down, neighbors and friends are changed, etc.

I'm in the midst of moving at the moment, and it is really unsettling.

Packing the boxes is the easy part, saying goodbye to the comfortable and familiar is much harder.

My father is the same. He positively dreads the thought of moving, and not so much the packing part. This issue came up the last time I visited home. When I was small we moved several times, and of course he played ringmaster for all those three-ring circuses. I figure it's got to be a lot harder moving a houseful of kids, especially when they're too small to be anything but a nuisance & a worry. But no, he didn't hate it then, he hates it now. Even if it's a local move and doesn't involve saying good-bye to anyone. Right now a move is something he _needs to consider_. But he hates the idea and won't consider it. Before too long it's going to become something he _must do_. And we're all fearing an epic struggle when that day comes.

As a teacher, I have found I am ALWAYS moving on the HOTTEST DAYS OF SUMMER! I can't imagine moving without rivers of sweat pouring down my back and front.

For me, it's the food. (Surprise!)

I've known for quite a while that I would probably be moving, so I've stopped buying anything except daily necessities and have been making meals out of whatever was on hand. The freezer is almost empty now, which is a good thing, but should I eat those last few strips of bacon so I don't have to move them (and risk them thawing and spoiling) or should I save them until I know where I can get a new supply?

It's Tuesday morning and I'd really like some orange juice, but I don't think I can drink a big bottle by Friday and the supa here at the complex is out of the little bottles. Should I say 'screw a balanced diet' and eat a can of corn for supper just so I don't have to lug it to the other end of the country?

Anyway, off for a first visit to my new home and then rush back for the movers at 7AM Friday. What a way to spend my only vacation time since February.

I had the richest casserole of scalloped potatoes in my life while cleaning out the fridge to move. The last of the cream cheese, the last of the brie, the last of the mozzerella, etc. Wow! Very Happy Shocked

Don't pack your own stuff. Hire moving people. They come to your place, pack all your stuff and then take it to your next apartment and unpack it for you. You don't need boxes, and you don't break a sweat. The only thing you need to pack yourself are your breakables/valuables.

Yeah, but they end up packing your "drawers of shame" for you, no questions asked, when you really do need to weed them out yourself.

I have moved the most.

I swear I am in the 30's by now.

The worst part of moving.

Its the moving part.

I have become a minimalist and I have learned not to get attached to material things.
